As I said previously to chip and alienlife I know sometimes I am a little opinionated but its based on a genuine desire to see a team I have supported for years do well

I wouldn't be arsed if there wasn't an announcer. We can all see who is playing, who scores and how many minutes have been added on by Timlins optometrists. The lad will get better as he goes along I'm sure, just let him crack on. If things like the announcer can upset people so much then I think they need to get a grip.

I'm afraid having an announcer became a Football League requirement in 1960.

But he gave the wrong minute for the first goal and therefore should be hanged from the gallows.

When ECG did this, he spoke like a Poolie, and sounded like a poolie.

Thats all this bloke should do. But he doesnt.

He puts on a very poncey DJ voice, which grates on everyone. Well everyone stood near me.

Thats all thats wrong.

What I was getting at was how can it bother anyone so much, yes he's not as good currently as yourself or your predecessor but I'm can't see why anyone would be bothered about it or want the lad sacked.

I'm guessing the bloke is quite nervous when doing it. There's people shouting to him inside the ground and he's getting 5 page threads about him on here. Just let him get on with it, he's doing a good job and will make it his own.

do you reckon he talks in that DJ voice when he talks to his mother?

If not, then he shouldnt do it to us.

Simple, and we would all get along fine.

Agreed. I get the impression he's probably not been an avid pools fan, hence the reason he maybe take a little longer to announce the scorer, I'm pretty sure time will rectify that issue!

This has been a classic bad thread with loads of unjustified abuse being thrown about- just what I needed on a dull Monday morning.

My opinion is that John Orley was a fantastic feature of going to Pools, he'd been there and sounded the same as long as I could remember and it was hard to imagine a match at Pools that didn't include his voice. When he finally stepped down the club had the good sense to appoint somebody who was a well known long term Poolie who also had the public performance experience and skills to handle the job. This generated enough good will for many to ignore his worryingly intense love of ELO.

Following those two was always going to be difficult because it is hard to accept that we've now got an announcer that is the same sort other clubs have- a local DJ who is there because he gets work from a local agency that seem to have cultivated some sort of link to the club. Gregg just needs to keep at it for 40 years and everybody will love him.

The problem with DJs these days is that they typically don't do much announcing they just play tracks.. I'm sure he'll get better around Christmas

Agreed, he should be deemed acceptable by Christmas 2053- just in time to announce the second coming of Ritchie.

It's not as if he is doing a running commentary on the game, he speaks for in total about 10-15 mins at most each game. He plays some decent music but never seems to announce my lottery number..

Iv bought at least 2 every game for about 20 years and still not won, how many do we generally sell? It used to be 50/50 didnt it? guessing its not at moment.

He's got no ambition, 6 pages is for lasses and kids we need to aim higher.

When it first started it paid 50% of takings after the sellers commission was taken out and was paying £750 plus some weeks then the rules changed and it was capped at £500 and some of us have been very fortunate and won it several times I was actually mentioned in the match day programme by bill waiters when I won it for the third time and have won it a couple of times since.

if I ever got the announcer's job, they'd have to employ someone to press the bleep/ beep button as well. In fact it would just sound like a very long episode of the noise at the end of the round on Mastermind.

And they'd have to use a 3 second delay like what they do on the radio (I think they had to do this once when someone started talking to me after one game and I'd had a few, turned out it was the radio bloke putting some headphones on me lugs and the bloke I was talking to was on air)

Neither do most threads, at least this one will serve as a tool to highlight who should be ignored.
