Its horrible what this drug can do ..Yes I enjoy a pint as much as the next man but when you see the damage it does it makes you wonder is it worth it??

Personally I'd make ALL spirits £90 a bottle!

Making spirits £90 a bottle wouldn't have been a problem for Gazza, he would probably still have drunk as much as he has done over the years, as money will never have been a problem for him. Why penalise everyone else for the few who can't, or won't, help themselves.

I think its more the can't thing Mr BP (especially for people with an problem).. Its drug more pernicious than any you can name but its freely available at any time from the corner shop! Maybe it would be a good idea if they went back to the old off licence model they used in the 70's rather than letting every man and his dog sell it! (Especially the spirits as from what I see these cause the most problem)

People simply need to change their attitude towards it. Like everything in life it is fine in moderation.

That is a better idea, with possibly a licence system, which can be withdrawn from 'users' who can't control their need for the drug!

If people want to drink themselves to death I'm afraid they should just be allowed to crack on.

Gazza has had more second chances to stop drinking than anyone deserves.

He is beyond help now, thought there was a bit of hope when Linekar and co all chipped in and sent him to America. Perhaps prison is best for him.

Prison wouldn't work either (never worked for Best).. Like yubep says no one should serve him not as if he's an unknown. As for everyone else I honestly do think we should make spirits harder to buy as it may help the situation .

He should start asking for Pimms when he is out, the laughter caused when ordering one without a pink shirt and handbag would be enough for him to stop drinking, either that or a homophobe would bitch slap him

How much for tabs?

Or junk food?

This minimum pricing thing is just a ruse to gather more tax. Self-destructors like Gazza can only be helped so much, and the price will make bugger all difference to them.

There are a few problem drinkers in my extended family (and some who died very young through it) but the rest of us can enjoy a drink without any problems.

I think the biggest alcohol problem in this country is largely hidden - people who drink wine at home. A bottle or two between a couple every night soon adds up, but as wine has a 'civilised' image it gets ignored. In 20 or 30 years time the effects of this will start to kick in and there'll be a lot of strain on the NHS or Group 4 or whoever is in charge of healthcare then.

In 20 or 30 years there will probably be a cure for the physical side of it, for those who can afford it anyway !
The mental effects are a little more complicated

Course we do. but Chinese piss heads are a bit different. They eat while they're drinking, if their mate gets wrecked they look after him, they rarely get aggressive, and they're always apologetic. They drink competitiveley but once someones arseholed, they look after him.

True, Mr Offshore.

There's none of the 'what are you looking at?' or 'did you touch my girlfriend' shit, because their mates keep them in check.

If we were doing this in the UK our rass'd freak.

Tell me about this. Every commodity in France is dearer than in the UK except wine. A 10 litre bag-in-box of very decent plonk costs about 12-15 snodgeurs ((c) aTFC). That's less than a squid a bottle. We've stopped buying them because when we get down to the last decant, we look at each other flabbergasted and pretty much frightened at how quickly it went.
