Ryan Noble and Adam Reed both released by Sunderland.

Such a shame for Ryan.

No chance of getting him but I would have him back for next season like a shot. Him, James, Poole, Baldwin and let youth lead the way.

Those people who liked Noble can you answer me one question. Why did you like him?

He had a nice car and ran quickly, but apart from that I saw nothing.

Just running quickly can catch the eye when nearly everybody else is very slow.

If he's a free agent then it would do C & H no harm to have a proper look at him in pre-season training.

Exactly, would he be better than 50% of the strikers in this division in my opinion yes. People saying he ran fast well to my knowledge the defenders in League 2 arnt exactly Linford Christie

Ok hes been released........but in a winning team (like sunderland reserves) He's a proven goalscorer.
Can't believe many here have been so quick to dismiss him.

I don't think people were/are quick to dismiss him, though.
As far as I could see, he was yet another imported 'striker' we watched for many weeks, hoping to see come good in the end, but who didn't.

Of course, he might have improved, but unless there's reason to believe this, why do we need to have another look at him?

Get used to it, because with no money to spend C&H have already said they are going to use loan players. And it worked for Yeovil.

He looked promising when at loan at the end of the previous season, but was poor the one just ended (does anyone else hate the bit in summer when it's neither 'this' season or 'last' season?)

I wouldn't take him on for the following reasons:

1) His ratio of converting chances to goals wasn't great
2) His head used to drop easily
3) He was 'sticky' and often used to try a spectacular shot rather than look to play a team-mate in

Get used to what? I can't see how anyone's post here is concerned with Noble on the grounds that he might be a loan player. confised

Adam Reed impressed the few times he played against us. Direct winger with pace and worked back.

i'd love to see Adam Reed sign.

As for Noble, i'd have him back, despite the fact his last spell for us was rather poor. The reason? how many times have we seen young players come to us on loan, show potential but not do particularly great, only to go on and develop into a bloody good player 2 year down the line.

The kid has one thing a good striker needs, an instinct to score goals. He didn't look to have the best of attitudes, but not in the same way Luscombe did. I reckon he'll go on to forge himself a good career in the lower leagues.

Shame he never showed that 'instinct to score goals' here

We all know the real reason he didnt score here was because the crowd were nasty to him.

Look at porter, he took a while to click. I have a sneaky feeling, and I don't know why, that Poolie will click next year and be our 20 goal man. It's purely a hunch I have but time will tell.

Do we need Noble, I don't think so . We have Poole who as I said when we brought Noble back last season is to similar. We need (IMHO) someone different in styles. It League 2 (division 4 in old money) If Howard (or someone like him) stays and we can actually supply him then he may be the different type of style we need when having to change the way we're playing if chasing a game. I also agree with Chrissy Stevo with regards to Poole.

The difference might be that Noble had ambitions to be Sunderlands next big thing when he was here. Now he's just an unemployed footballer. He's not in exalted company any more so he might just get his head down and take a chance if it's offered.

Well, lots of mights, but I'm hoping the new manager has someone more promising in mind.

Well we all do I'm sure but CC is a long term youth coach. Anyway it's just a possibility. No rabbit off yet.

Sunderland had the fox in the box, we have the Ox in the box banghead

Yes Noblw was disappointing last time, but under the new regime might well be what we need. If we don't snap him up we'll surely see him for another L2 club next season, would expect Conference clubs to to be sniffing round too.
Adam Reed could be promising too -pacy winger. Also heard the name Billy Knott also a winger from Sunderland mentioned too.
Young lads released from big clubs are likely to be what Cooper/Hignett go for-they will have seen most under 21's from the north east- I'm of the opinion Noble could be useful if coached properly and used properly, on this from what I have seen and heard so far would trust Colin Cooper with and to instill professionalism .

I must admit I failed to see why everyone got so excited the first time he was on loan. His chance to goal conversion rate was pretty poor and his general play not brilliant, he's lightweight for one. At least he was keen the first time last season he seemed to combine not being great with a bad attitude, to be fair he wasn't the only one but he never impressed me.

I know we'll end up getting young players on loan from the big 3 neighbours (and maybe further afield). With that in mind my personal opinion if we going to bring in players on a permanent deal would be to go for the more experienced pro. by that I mean age wise and look for players in the 25-28 range. Players who we could keep for a few years hopefully but also players with a bit on know how on league 2 operates.

Think Reid could add something to our midfield. Would be ahead of Walton and Sweeney certainly. As for Noble bit of a big time Charlie for me.
