Crawley Town is likely to be invaded on 27th April, I have waited with anticipation for this day for a whole year and plan to be part of it.
Train tickets are booked, accommodation arranged, bags almost packed but....................what am I going to wear????
Please can somebody let me know, by private message if needs be, what the Smurfs are being replaced with this year.

We will "probably" have been relegated but after 38 years of following Pools I am still going to be a Proud Poolie that day.

Go in your normal clothes and pretend to be local. It will save you loads of embarrasment.

Think about it, do you really want people to know you are a poolie, at the moment?

I am a cricket fan only now, looking forward to the ashes.

Football is a fucking stupid sport.

It really is such a shame the way the season has panned out, the first fixture I looked for when released was our last away game and hoping it was in London. But this year I can't make it due to family commitments, but I'm not bothered at all. No buzz about it like previous years. I'd be surprised if we take more than 100 but I hope I'm completely wrong.

Crawley isn't even in London and is shit.

If I'd already booked train tickets and a hotel I'd spend the day in London mooching around interesting stuff and partaking of the local ales.

Can't understand the negativity at all on this thread regarding the fancy dress away game. Last year was unbelievable. All 191 who went as smurfs enjoyed themselves and we all had a great time with none of that to do with the football side of things. We forgot we were playing for nothing at all and simply had a great day out. This year should be no different. It's a chance to show we ain't a laughing stock, its a chance to give hartlepool some positive comments again. Last year was that good a dont see why fans should suffer anymore and miss out on what should be another great day to be a poolie, league 2 or not

I am going and will be in the fancy dress if its made known.

The fans can at least show their true love of the club even if some of the players haven't.

Should be a laugh.

It probably will be a good day out RB but its a 200 quid day out and for me
I had to waste 2 days annual leave so I've sold my train ticket.

After the utter dross that has been served up this season I'm not remotely bothered about missing it.

I only found out last year from a PM on here, I know its the surprise element but still think it should be made known.

In response to SlackArris's question, it has been confirmed today that the theme is to be Penguins.
Now I don't know if this is Emperors, Rockhoppers or any other sort of penguin. But I guess there will only be one type of penguin fancy dress!

For all those not going fair enough but why all the smart comments and negativity! The 100 plus who are booked to travel down (many actually going for two nights), we will have a fantastic couple of days down in London (and Crawley), whatever the outcome of the game itself. :character-smurfguy:

Well said Mr.N....and to the others who thinks it is all 'hush hush'....it isn't....you only have to get in touch with the organiser or PM someone on here who you think might know and you would have been told....the only reason it isn't allover the boards earlier is because Mr.TheCrow needs a rough idea of numbers so he can then sort the fancy dress out etc etc....and Hotel and Train seats!!!! confised

Mr.John....120/130 was sorted last year....nearly 200 turned up as Smurfs....how did they find out???? sctatchinghead sctatchinghead

Flippin'eck (Tucker) I was talking to two girls the same age as my daughter and from the same school and they have never been on a Hartlepool Message Board but they support Pools....they found out and turned up as 'Smurfettes'....it's not a closed shop....it's not a clique....ask and you will find!!!!

Are people expecting an invitation through the door like for an Engagement or 40th???? sctatchinghead

Now I know why some on here think this is a 'Clique'!!!! confised confised confised

Hmm

Well I can accept that could be one of the reasons, though it's a pretty thin one. What if someone doesn't need a train seat or a hotel? What if someone doesn't do message boards but wants to join in? How would they find out? Why does everything need to go through some central hub rather than let people sort out their own (matching) costumes. Why the big secret? It's sad that something that generates so much good-natured publicity for the club also seems to so preciously guarded. I don't know the organiser, but I would say he does a fine job; it's just a shame that it also seems to be a bit of a pathetic ego trip.

Cracking post.

Their will no doubt be loads of teams doing it this year so they won't get as much attention as they crave anyway.

I was thinking that. Could there be a fancy dress elite who hold a competition for best outfit and like time to prepare..... so the normal participant turns up looking like a shit penguin and the elite, having had months to prepare, turn up as emperor penguins...?

If you were responsible for organising for over 100 fans to go - booking the train, getting the accommodation sorted etc then you might appreciate why it isnt always revealed immediately.

If something goes wrong and people dressed up in the "official" fancy dress get into some chew then who gets the blame? Thats right, the organiser. He tries hard to ensure he has some knowledge of who he is booking for to avoid the risk of people who he does not know (or know through a third party) from spoiling the whole thing for others.

No conspiracy. No cover up - just common sense really!

I put on here yesterday it was penguins. I woke up this morning with a horses head on my bed.

Do not mess with the FDE.

I'm just in the town now, I'm sure I'm being followed.

It's just not safe to reveal anything of the FDE.

Ill have to stop posting for a bit n go underground

Agree it all seems a bit strange. I'm sure it can be a bit of a nightmare to sort out but the secrecy probably just puts people off joining in. I don't think anyone would expect an invitation either.

If it was me, I would probably organise it like this;
1. Decide on fancy dress theme
2. Tell all my mates the theme has been decided and to give me £20
3. Buy outfits
4. Tell the whole world what theme we are going as and encourage everyone to join us if they fancy it

I don't see why anyone would want to do it any other way to be honest
