So, with the upturn in form recently and the potential to get some much needed points coming up. If we did the great escape and stayed up, what players would you still get rid of come the summer?

I must admit a few months ago the lot would have gone, but I think only a few need to go now to strengthen the squad?

Thoughts please?

still get rid of most, especially the old guard who have way too much power.

Staying up would merely paper over the cracks.

I've said previously in my opinion it depends on the League we're in next season who I, personally, would keep. If in League 2 I would keep more then if in League 1 which would mean if in League 1 some released that I believe could do a job in League 2.

To get promotion from League 2 you would need players who are good enough to play in League 1.
Get rid of the players who aren't good enough regardless of what league we are in.

But after recent displays the players I would have got rid of, I would consider keeping now?

Although performances have improved in the last few games, without a few good signings I dont think we'd have a chance of promotion from League 2.

You judge players over a whole season. On that basis almost all will need to be sacked. I will however explode if certain pensioners are kept on.

for me the rest of this season is about getting some pride and looking at building a side for next season which doesn't look like it will slide straight into the Conference at the very least.

That means releasing Sweeney, Austin, Monkhouse, Humphreys, Collins, Howard off the top of my head. I can't see any reason to keep any of that lot, despite recent improved showings from Austin, Collins and Humphreys

I believe we might yet get a half decent player out of Walton, also people like Horwood and Franks would fare better with better players around them.

We need to sign a dependable left back for certain.

In short the people who are the senior pros deserve to be booted out more than anyone else because for me, they have been the cause of disruption in the dressing room and have performed woefully for too long

Sorry but they've had their last chance and they have blew it

Don't you love footy fans......? ...we have been served dross all season and after a few games where they did what they're actually expected to do, all is forgiven all's well with world, confidence restored and faith returns ....... sorry, I'm not falling for that one.
I'll give Hughes the benefit of the doubt provided the walking wounded are left in dry dock when recovered ....that apart, a scythe is needed at the close of the season, there are no redeeming features.

To quote Jean Kerr, if you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs, it is possible you haven't grasped the gravity of the situation.

Or, as Winston Churchill once said "success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm."

He also said

Quote:
The problems of victory are more agreeable than the problems of defeat, but they are no less difficult
.

Meaning if a player puts in a couple of decent games a season then don't forget the dross he gave you for the rest of the year.

If you employed a plumber who kept getting it wrong and flooding your house repeatedely, would you cheerfully welcome him back time after time telling him your little Churchillian mantra as each time he cocks up on your battered plumbing system .......?
I always used to marvel at how in the first world war thousands upon thousands used whistle cheerfully as they marched off to the front to be machine gunned in their thousands then I read your posts and it all becomes apparent
Going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm indicates an unquestioning attitude, a rainbow chaser, happy to accept anything if they're told it's right, ........... but it does at least avoid the bother of having to think and actually confront the reality of a situation.

Churchill is second only to James Joyce for coming out with phrases whose greatness lies entirely in the author's head.

"Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm" is meaningless horse shit.
"We learn by our mistakes", on the other hand, makes such good sense it makes the guy who rephrased it seem like a complete prick.

Churchill said some great things and some silly things, that was a silly thing. The concept of going from failure to failure with enthusiasm signifying success, is like watching someone headbutt a tank repeatedly with enthusiasm and classing this as a success while watching them and doubting their sanity.
How's your forehead by the way........?
