...still 6 teams in League One with less points than games played. Does that mean that 43/44 points could be enough to stay up this season?. Last season 43 points and a better g.d. than -23 would have kept you in this league.

Is 24/25 points achievable from the 51 left for us?,....afterall it's only 6 wins and 6 draws...

If you look at it as five defeats maximum from the next seventeen games, it's a bit more formidable. We've lost over 60% of our games so far. confised
But yeah sure, no harm in trying. :handgestures-fingerscrossed:

Now the half full version: if we somehow win let's say the next three games, we will be seriously breathing down a few necks, and with 14 games still left. :-D

Thing is we've taken more points in our last 6 games than the previous 23.

I've completely forgotten how shit we were. A couple of swallows clearly means summer and I'm now certain that we will stay up. Ten wins will do it and now that Big Stevie is on the treatment table that should be a piece of piss.

sorry like but thats just not the case. 5th bottom had 50 points. and usually does.

Unless you honestly think 5 teams can possibly get 43 points or less.

Especially in a season where the top teams have dropped shitloads more points than normal.

We may stay up with less than 50, or even 46 points, but I certainly wouldnt put money on the latter.

So Colchester and scunthorpe only need 5 wins each to get to 44 points.

There are 4 games were Bury Oldham Scunthorpe and Colchester play each other, so points will be gained there.

Both Bury and Oldham have to play Portsmouth.

All of them have to play us. If we can win all 4 of them we may have a chance.

If I was a betting man I would be betting on both Portsmouth and Scunthorpe to go down.

So then we need two from the other three, Bury Colchester, Oldham to really fail.

The other glimmer of hope is Preston who, from a friend, I have been advised are in utter freefall and have a manager who the fans now hate, and cant get rid of, as he has a stake in the club.

So there is hope, but its not as easy as some of you are trying to make out.

I had a dream last night. I flew to Gatwick for the Crawley match. Pools were on 47 points and 4th bottom. Massive Pools following dressed in WW2 uniforms singing the Great Escape. Our last minute winning goal that clinched safety was scored by James Poole arriving in the box late on Steve McQueen's motorbike.

I also dreamt that somebody had shat in my car which wasn't so good.

That would eclipse the Smurfs tbh.

But that's kind of the point (point a game) isn't it? So far they have 7 and 8 wins respectively out of 30.

Besides which I never spotted anyone claiming the great escape is as good as nailed on.

Indeed. Alternatively, if WW2 uniforms prove a tad too expensive, we could go dressed as death row convicts singing "Over the wall we go" (which I didn't realise until now was penned by none other than Mr D. Bowie).

Can't see why anyone would be offended by that Mr Offshore.

That song is nearly as good as The Laughing Gnome, proves what a genius Bowie was before he got distracted by Mick Ronson and declined into po-faced seriousness.

I never said anyone said it was nailed on.

And if we can beat all 5 teams around us, we may well do it.

All I am trying to get across is that for us to survive we need to go on an unbelievable run. We could do it, but equally so could one or two of the others, and they dont need to go on anywhere near an unbelievable run as we do.

And they dont have to do a real lot to get to 44 points. But, fook me, we do.

It may well be the case that fewer points survives this season than ever before, but it will still be around the 46-47 points at best.

So only 27-28 required from 17 games then.

Like I said if we win all 5 games against the relegation opposition, that would mean we would only need 12-13 points from the other 12 games.

And that would be some achievement.

You watch us do it, but go down by 1point.

If it gets that close I'll have money on Pools to stay up; we are jammy buggers when it gets down to the wire.

Like John Hughes says, all Pools' games are cup finals till the end of the season. Personally I'll be watching the gap between us and 5th bottom; all that matters is that it steadily keeps narrowing. And I won't be too downcast if we lose the odd match, though the non-attending doom and gloom merchants will be back out in force as soon as there's a bad result. The atmosphere last Saturday said it all; Pools fans are natural cynics but will always respond to a team that shows some real fight.

In my experience these things happen in fits and starts. One week all the results go your way and you're three points closer. Other weeks the other buggers all win. When teams rise or fall, it's often very quickly.
Obviously in our case we can't rise quickly for a while yet.

But do we have any real reason to believe we'll start stringing wins together? Swindon is an unwelcome prospect in that regard.

I'd have been much happier if Swindon had gone pear shaped but they are still holding it together. Although when they do go pear shaped it's typical of our luck it's not going to be for a few weeks yet
