I feel like I've had the weight of the world lifted off my shoulders. I wonder if the players do too?

Yeah

Goals early in both halves I meant. There have been plenty of times this season where we have had good spells of pressure only to see us not score. It gives the opposition confidence.

Very true. At the end of the day the table doesn't lie but there have been several occasions when we've arguably thrown the game away.

Let's just hope we can build on this as the confidence instilled by beating the league leaders (at the start of the game) will surely be huge. Preston got walloped today and judging by recent form aren't pulling up any trees. A great opportunity for back to back wins is there to be taken.

I also accept it's probably just as likely that we'll lose 4-0 or something!

My brother was there and he said that Franks had a good game. As did Howard by all accounts.

Howard had the same game as normal except he scored 2. Goals is all anyone wants. Be shit and score and nobody will give a shit

Even if Howard had failed to score I think he had an excellent game today. Led the line very well and won balls for which he was second favourite both in the air and on the deck. Today he looked like the Steve Howard I'd hoped we'd signed in the summer. A few others who've come in for stick also had very good games - Richards, Walton, Humphreys and especially Jon Franks. There was a Blades fan on Radio Sheffield afterwards saying that Franks is the sort of player they should be looking to sign.

I also thought that James Poole was very bright in his time on the pitch. Looked sharp and interested. Wyke picked up a knock and , if he doesn't recover, Poole may have played himself into a starting spot on Tuesday.
anything in particular that stood out what we did differently today John?

Fair play to the sheff Utd fans too. They are giving us bags of credit on their board.

How did Walton play? Was he worthy of a start?

Walton had a very good game even when he drifted out of it he was encouraging everyone around him. there a footballer in there within him today he should that especially in the first half hour. Probably pushed Franks for MOTM

Almost agree.

Best game yet for Big Steve.

Walton impressed for thirty minutes.

Another good game from Franks.

Agree with what MJ said. I think Sheff U started on the back foot because they didn't fancy the conditions. I said to Stevo (not that he will remember) after about 5 minutes that the conditions may suit Howard.

From minute 1 though I didn't think they fancied it, apparently they got injurys on boxing day so today was a changed line up ? The conditions were the same for both teams though and we wanted it more. Sheff Utd came close a few times in the first half but the goal we conceded was sloppy on a number of counts and should have been avoided. I can honestly say that between minutes 50 and 70 Pools were a pleasure to watch - some of the best football that I've seen away from home. Hopefully we will continue to battle till May....

I wonder whether the boo boys at the vic will lay off him now, and let his undoubted talents do the talking?

Even if he doesnt run round like a headless chicken, which I know a lot Pools think makes a good player.

Who would they boo instead though?

They need a replacement.

Oh I have no doubt whatsoever that the motley crew of serial inadequates who appear to achieve a gratifying ejaculation of acidic bile every time they hurl their witty gems of vitriol on a regular basis will no doubt have an updated list of victims they can abuse , purely of course to help them improve their game....

i played in the fans team that got beat 8-0 this year. i'll get my strip back on and attempt a keepy up in the corner between the town end and the mill house. people can boo me and hurl abuse and soft round objects all they want if it means they spend their bile on me and not the team. can't say fairer than that can I ?

Best game I've seen Walton play. Was excellent. Franks MOM, seemed a hunger that we have lacked, players throwing themselves infront of the ball. Still think we are down but if we can fight like that at least we will go down with some pride.
