Jon Dalys just for what it meant and how close we were to promotion but Eiffion Williams for technique

I prefer Nelson's piledriver against the Posh to Hugh's against Luton for the simple reason Nelson didn't get a run up before wellying it.
Boyd's vs Wendies = Gabbiadini's vs Stockport
Eifion's on the other hand was the most incisive movement I've ever seen from Pools. Brilliant. So good that Peter Crouch felt he had to copy it.

But I'm sure there are many other great goals I've fogotten about over time.

Boyd's V Wendies was brilliant, but then his performance that night should have earned an England call up.

Effion's at Darlo was special, but for pure elation when it hit the net Daly's at Cardiff was incredible.

Top picks, and going back a lot further I can remember a belter from Paul Bielby (MBE) and an absolute screamer from Bryan Conlon - and he only ever scored three for the club. I think it might have been away to Bradford, but while ITMC is still getting mended I'd have to dig through a pile of old programmes to check.

Conlon scored Away to Bradford City, 23-9-72. Wasn't there but Bryan Conlon is one of my early Pools memories, unfeasably tall bloke with sideburns. Chip Fireball has his autograph!!!

Mutley you have beaten me to it, was Gona say honour v Maidstone (both of them) or honour in the league cup v Stockport at the death.

Oh well I'll go for dalton v Exeter. I think it got voted north east goal of the season that year aswell. Was a clearance off the line by us and a few quick passes and dalton was away. Happy times!!

Brian Honour away to Aldershot. Night game think we beat them 5-1.
He beat about 5 players before slotting it home!
Effions against Darlo..... Pure class!
Gordon Watsons against Hull, night game and a 4-0 win about 8 years ago !

Joe Allon in 1997 away at Darlo. Not technically great obviously, but a goal deep into injury time infront of the tin shed full of darlo's then ripping his shirt off past the home as they stood there sick as fook... a goal that pretty much kept us in the league as well.

The actual goal was pretty shit the net barely rippled, but it was great in context.

*Also Brown's free kick in the same game.

Effion superb, Brian Honour v Stockport remarkable, Boydy v Sheff Wed capped a brilliant performance but I think I'd go along with the Fat Man on Paul Baker. That was the moment and the match that made you realise that Cyril Knowles might actually save us.

Joe Allon away at Darlo to keep us up was nice as well. As Mr VOR says not the best technically, the coaching manuals don't say to sit on your arse but it did the job and was very big fun to celebrate.

You've had nine you sticky Kunt ((c)Mutley).

Boyds first against Sheffield Wednesday into the roof of the net.

Porter's interception against Bristol City in the play off semi.

Sweeney's against Bristol City away in the play off semi.

Huuuggghhhh's free kick against Blackpool when he blammed into the top corner after the ref made him take it twice.

Matty Robson against Peterborough in Cooper's first ever game.

Ben Clarke, his first goal for the club at Bristol Rovers.

Darrell Duffy, all of them.

3.Bakers header at Stockport (90-91)to put us 1 up after we'd been battered for the first 30 mins.

Honour got 2 equally good absolute pearlers v Maidstone!!

Iv re read and fully agree with madjohn, bakers v Northampton. Promotion day, when that went in it was party time.

If mckays had stood for the title v Bristol rovers a reckon this would be a no brainer

A question for real stattos now; who crossed the ball for Baker's overhead? I reckon only ECG will get this. A clue; while I thought he was great, he was really shite. I also think that, according to the programme, his pre-match routine involved fastening his laces on the pitch.

I can't remeber who crossed it, but i remember Baker plucked one of the Atkinson brothers out of the crowd at the rink end and hoisted 'acky' onto his houlders. Acky, if i remember it rightly, was wearing a fake leather bomber jacket. His photo was in the mail on Bakers shoulders.
