"We're convinced we've got the right man in place to take the Club forward," Chief Executive Russ Green commented.

"Everybody knows that this appointment was a crucial one for the Club so we have taken our time, assessed our options and John is the choice we are all extremely happy with."

If that's the case how come 'by all accounts' Phil Brown was offered it first but 'clauses' etc scuppered that Man coming in?!?! sctatchinghead

SPIN SPIN SPIN SPIN SPIN SPIN SPIN SPIN SPIN SPIN SPIN SPINSPIN SPIN SPIN!!!!

Can I just say welcome to Pools Mr Hughes. Please repeat what you did at Falkirk. I hope you have agreed a sensible budget with IOR because we do need to strengthen the squad, bring some talent in asap and I'm sure you will be strong enough to take down a peg or two anyone in the set up who believes that that they know best. Too many feel that the are untouchable and are in the comfort zone. A quick reference to the league table might help with that. Mickey Barron has been a great servant to the club but he is young and inexperienced coach still studying for his badges so please don't feel inhibited in reminding him of that fact if necessary. Get the lads playing with pride and passion (and please keep the ball on the deck) and you will find the Hartlepool faithfull will quickly warm to you. We have some good prospects and it would be great if you could ensure that they fulfill their potential.

As for Mr Brown I'm not disappointed that he hasn't been appointed. I'd rather see us pay for new players rather than an extended backroom staff. His press comments of the last 36 hours simply reinforce my view that his stay would have been temporary as he and IOR would have fallen out very quickly.

John Hughes deserves every chance. But it's annoyed me so much the fact Barron is remaining as assistant when he's quite clearly proven he's useless as a manager himself and an assistant! He's been rewarded for failure! He should have walked away when cooper did. Surely everybody knows a full ballroom clear out is what is needed not just one manager.

He confirmed it by the way he has behaved during contract negotiations with Pools and I sincerely hope we fucked him off because of his blabbering. I say good luck to John Hughes, I've got no reason to believe he is a cock and he might turn out to be an excellent appointment.

We may have had a lucky escape. It will be interesting to follow his career sucsesses from here on. He may wake up kicking himself tomorrow.

Who has said he is shyte ?

The reason people seem angry as I see it is because what they perceive to be the real problem at the club, once again, hasn't been tackled. The opportunity to actually make widespread changes has been missed.

As one person has said, we have changed managers twice, we have had clearouts at the end of the season ( How many went this time ? 9 was it ? ) and still the same old faces are here, and seem to have massive influence at the club.

It was no shock to see Barron fetching Collins and Humphreys back into the fold, or to see him persist with a striker that never looks remotely like scoring for 90 minutes.

Those of us who have to watch this crap week in and week out wanted real change at the club, a real clearing of the decks in the coaching structure.

We thought we were getting a whole new management team and a fresh opinion on things.

So what we actually got just feels like a massive let down.

That's not a criticism of Hughes, its just people feeling that nothing much will change in the long term. We may be wrong to feel like that, but feel like that we do.

Well said Mr.Fireball!!!! clappp clappp clappp

Spot on! I'm right behind John Hughes but feel he will be working with his arms tied behind his back with the current set up at pools

For me its good luck to the bloke but like a lot of others I see nothing but the strengthening of the very thing thats wrong with this football club. I guess its a bit like x Factor, jedward kept getting voted back in even though everyone knew that they were fucking rubbish.

Now we've got Jedward plus a Scottish fall guy, some things never change.

Shape up Ralf.

I've spoke to 5 people tonight, who you all know, who have said the same as me. Finished with Pools, and they have all been going as long as me and couple of them longer.

Wether you like it or not, that's how it is.

Finished with pools??? Fine mate, dont bother like all the other fuckwits in this town, you go and sit on your ass and watch the premshit in the club. I am as pissed off as anyone with pools keeping the same backroom staff but it wont stop me going. I and you have seen a thousand times worse during the late 80's and 90's so you dont need to get on your high horse now. I really dont believe the attitude of some fans.

Give Big Yogi his due he does like his teams to get the ball on the deck and pass it. He was fairly poor at Hibs but his Falkirk side were often good to watch.

He also kept Falkirk in the Scottish Prem for 4 consecutive seasons and even better got them to the Scottish cup final.
Not a bad thing to add to your CV!!!

Good luck to John Hughes. I hope your ability to keep Pools in this division is not the yardstick for judging you and that this has been made plain to you.

I'm absolutely gutted.

Not because of the managerial appointment but because we have kept Barron at the club. The club simply never learn and persisting with this stubbornness will just see the crowds dwindle further.

It is beyond a joke now. A managerial clearout was needed, and has been for ages. The fans start getting optimistic that it may happen then Hodcroft shows his incompetence once again.

Good luck to John Hughes, he will need it.

that seems contradictory to me Chip, You state the facts aren't conspiracy theories. then write

If that is a fact prove it on here... show everyone the financial package Howard has, Show everyone his contract where it's written he has to play 90 minutes of every game......either that or stick to what are facts and what are conspiracy theories because that about Howard is not only a conspiracy theory it F****** bullsh** now if you prove it to I will apologise and pay for the next away trip you wish to go to, that includes travel and ticket only. The first part about him not scoring in a brothel is in fact a fact I won't disagree with that part. It the other bits

I'm quite happy with the appointment of Hughes,he's got a decent record & sound's as though his team plays football, but i just can't understand why Barron is still here & it's really pissing me off.
If he had any pride in himself,he should have walked away with Cooper, not kept hanging around like a bad smell.
He should be embarrassed that he is still at the club.

Fron OS: Hughes prospered in The Bairns (Falkirk) hotseat and guided them to promotion to the Scottish Premier League in 2005 and kept them there for four seasons, as well as reaching the 2009 Scottish Cup Final.

So he's well used to operating with a tight budget and has kept a small club operating at a high level. Good luck to him.

For anyone looking at John Hughes's record at Hibs it should be remembered that of 59 games and 23 losses, I'd guess 10 or 11 were against Celtic and Rangers.

I'm also in total agreement with Mr. Fireball's post.

John Hughes had nowt to do with yesterday's public relations fiasco so I'll get behind him and the team on Saturday like every other Poolie. If he's half as plain speaking as people say, he'll soon be telling Micky Barron to fook right off when he puts a word in for the old stagers and concentrating on getting the best out of our younger players.

I'm still seething about yesterday though. "We're convinced we've got the right man in place to take the Club forward," says Russ Green - feckin' hypocrite was in final contract talks with Phil Brown a few hours before. Mind, he's just playing Goebbels to Ken Hodcroft's Hitler.

Oh, and well played the couple of chunts on here who couldn't wait to pour gratuitous insults all over Brown as soon as the negotiations fell through. Just as well eh- you'd have had to wait a least a couple of games before putting the boot in if he'd been appointed. Orange cocks the both of you.

To be fair Mr Dawes I would have been prepared to support the original orange cock if he'd got the job. Mind you I insulted him before the negotiations fell through as well so you can't be meaning me when you're calling people not nice people. Check the meaning of gratuitous as though. Phil Brown is orange, he is also a self serving-egotistical cock of the highest order. Pointing stuff like that out is hardly gratuitous unlike your club officials as leading Nazis line. Having said that, Nathan Luscombe has the right physique to make a good Martin Borman.

If Phil Brown ate a few bags of Wotsits, and then had a crafty wank, he'd HAVE an orange cock (as well as being one)...
