Nice to see again we spent no money on agents fees last season, one of only 5 clubs.

No. Any other suggestions as to which leeches of the game we should fund? I applaud Ken's stance on this, if more clubs were as diligent the game would be rid of the cash-sucking scrotes.

Would paying a third party necessarily mean that though, of course it doesn't. Surely a grown man can conduct his own negotiations

Would you pay someone to get you a plumber/electrician etc ?

Well done Pools.

Some agents are just good salesmen, trying to flog useless players then taking a cut if they get a deal. I think the club have done a great job on this

I'm trying to decide whether to be ambivalent about it or not.

If I felt they could get me a better overall deal than if I had to get one myself, then yes.

its worth remembering some players might not be the brightest sparks when it come to negotiating contracts with chairmen.
In which case an agent can prevent them getting ripped off.

So how does this work in practice then?

If we want to sign a player but refuse to deal with his agent do we not risk losing the player?

No the player has to pay his agent out of his own pocket and not from pools

So the alternative option is to let some agent discuss the players terms with the chairman for them to try to rip the CLUB off. Because that's what most will try to do, get more than the players worth then add his fee.

Once more well done KH/RG and Pools.

I wouldnt like to think Pools lose out on good players because they wont pay an agents fee.

Pools will deal with players agents. They just make sure the player pays his fee. And rightly so. More and more clubs are catching on...at least three times it's ONLY been HUFC with a Zero score..this season it's five. Next it might be ten.

at the end of the day, if a player wants to employ someone to get them a better deal, then its up to the player to pay them.

That clears it up then, the agent still get his cut, in a roundabout way.

I'm still in two minds about it. On the one hand it's positive but on the other.....

I wonder if someone might tell you to stop dithering.

Nail on head. Agents should be paid for their services by the player unless you are the manager of a huge football club and your son is the agent so you make sure they get a huge wedge of a fee

At the end of the day the same money will be getting paid out whether the club pay the agent direct or through the player.
Player wants a 10 grand signing on fee, agent wants 20% of that, so negotiates a sign on fee with the club of 12 grand.
Everybody's happy and the club haven't been seen to pay the agent.
