if it does get built (or even if it doesn't) it could be time to rename the Rink End. We've got the CKS and the other two are named as part of sponsorship deals and no doubt the club will want to get sponsors for the new one if we get it as well. However I think it's an opportunity to honour someone or rename it after something related to the town.

My starters for ten are:

The Harold Hornsey Stand
The Kenny Johnson Stand
The Tony Parry Stand

The Little Bit of Pools, which will be forever Darlo Stand
The Peoples Republic of Hartlepool Stand
The Stand which the stewards won't let you stand in Stand
The Alan Shearer came to the Vic once and sat somewhere else stand
The shelter from those biting north sea winds in the middle of August stand

The Harold Hornsey Stand, and I would love to see if we could get a statue of him involved as well.

Many supporters won't be aware that the current Rink End stand was built as a result of the efforts of the Supporters Association and the generosity of the Yuill family. It was originally intended for the use of home supporters. but Gary Gibson decided to make it the away end. I think this is a good example of the value of an active supporters group to a club like H.U.F.C.

By variouis means they raised a substantial amount of money. As a part of the fund raising efforts the secretary approached Yuill's with a request for some sponsorship .Yuill's very kindly agreed to build the stand as long as the Supporters paid upto half the cost ,which they did . So the stand was built as a joint effort.

Can I just point out that the Rink End is actually sponsored now, it's official name is the Smith and Graham stand

The trouble with sponsoring stands or stadiums is that they will always be known by their old name. It will always be The Rink End, The Town End, The Mill House Terrace. How many Newcastle fans call St. James Park the Sports Direct Arena?

Ok it's Official name is the Smith and Graham(Rink End) stand, all I was saying is that it already has sponsors, though that could have been a 1 year deal so it's possible that it will revert simply back to the Rink End next season. Though i see the previous posters point that older fans will still call it by the old names.

I wish they hadnt built it. Much prefer the old rink end to any stand we have now. The town end hardly echos at all for atmosphere compared to the rink end. When they put the seats in it killed the atmosphere for home fans. I remember the 1st game v reading and it was like a morgue with the town end having no roof in them days. Obviously appreciate the upgrade of the ground but personally i wish they would have developed the town end and left the rink end alone.

It only became the away when the Town End and Cyril Knowles were built, Gibson was long gone. The acoustics might be better but the view isn't, I think people would have been up in arms had we given the new Town End to away fans. Peoples views are often tainted by nostalgia on here!

I remember it having a really naff name when they first put the seats in, something like the 'Golden Jubilee stand' We used to sit in it towards the directors box in the middle.

For it to be worthy of the name Rink End, a shower of rust has to fall from the roof every time the ball hits the stand.

Whatever it is called it will have to fit into "Can you hear the Rink End Sing? I can't hear a fupping thing!"

So "Can you hear the stand formerly known as the Rink End now sponsored by Cheesey Peas sing!" might not work some how. sctatchinghead
