Did anyone try to stop smoking after the new year?

I was a 20 a day smoker been 16 days for me now, without any help of nicotine patches and such.

First 2 days was agony could of killed someone mainly our lass Once over the 2 days though in my case its got better also saved £6 in a tin each day thats a good inscentive to keep you going..

Ive always enjoyed a tab monkey and didn't want to stop only a couple of days before new year i rather indulged quite alot of tabs and booze over hols and got sick and thought fook it. Feel loads better.

No will power me..On and off battle with tabs for years now..I don't like people who can give them up easily either..

I gave up after smoking 20-30 a day for years. Generally grumpy for 18 months but the odd thing was the first three or four days- felt like a big hand was gripping my face. Once that stopped it wasn't too bad.

I used to smoke 20/30 a day...sometimes 40 if I was out on the booze. Hypnothearapy finally cured me..walked in as a sceptic...walked out an hour later as a non smoker.

Used to smoke ten a day from when I was 16 years old up until I was about 30. Now only smoke when I've had a drink or at pools at half time if any are going free

Problem there is you drink 10 pints a day and have a fag after every pint

So thats how you paid the parking fine off quickly.

Apparently the 3rd week is meant to be the most difficult ( after the 1st few days) no idea why.

I been reducing the number I have been smoking a day since new year and at moment I smoke at tops 3-4 a day next week when I go shooting in Scotland I am going to try and not smoke any and should be easy as you cant buy any in about 6 mile radius of were I am staying so if I take non I can smoke any.

I am not going to kid myself and say I wont never smoke again when I have a pint.

Never understood why anyone would start in the first place

Smoking lots of weed at Uni doesnt really help.

Me neither, used to hate the smell etc, then as a 17 year old I got pissed, mates dared me to try one and that was it, hooked. Near enough 20 a day for 10 year, then one day couldn't be arsed to go to the shop (2 min walk) and quit.

5th year now for me.........Butts right you need to want to pack in it could be any little thing that flicks that switch in your brain to say enough is enough then its easy.

Mine was watching my 4yr old daughter then smokining chips and copying my actions when i used to hang out the back door for a smoke

I smoke when I drink and cant seem to do anyting about it, strange thing is I cant handle the smell or anything when sober!!!!

Agreed...always baffles me, fella I work with smokes about 100 a week.. I mean that must cost him a fortune. I must admit I spend a fair wedge on drink but atleast you get pissed from it and make a parmo taste twice as good!

Just don't have that next tab - that "just the one", or the "well I'm pissed" or "I've had a shite day" or "I'm celebrating" one. There's loads of excuses and I must have used them all at one stage or another. And from then on its a slippery slope back again.

I've now realised how simple it is. Crack the withdrawal, do some exercise and stuff to make you feel better etc - and most importantly, don't ever have that next tab. Take it a day at a time, an hour at a time if you need to. But if you don't have that next tab then you have given up sucessfully

I also used a Hypnotherapist, walked in a smoker and walked out still a smoker, but now do a great impression of Elvis when someone claps

at least I might make a few quid back that way when I invite guests round

A visit to someone further down the line paying the price of smoking puts things into perspective, throat cancer being a particularly cruel one I can testify to from a number of occasions. Of course you're not guaranteed to catch it, but the person on the ground watching has less chance of dying in a parachute accident than the one jumping out of the plane with a bed sheet for a parachute.

I lost my sister to cancer 8 years ago, after she had smoked since an early age. I would give anything to have her back, and cannot understand how you smokers carry on taking your lives in your hands, with such a disgusting anti social habit.

Do that mate and dont touch it, its only money you would of spent, believe me doing this will spur you on.

Im still off them although last two saturdays when been on the drink i had a couple Saying that though im still sticking to it! Im what you call a very occasional smoker

Well i started again But have got the will to try again just bought a vip e cigarette had it two days and it really does feel like smoking a real tab.

Lots cheaper and a lot less harmful

I got a cheapy one from the newsagent for a tenner, it's great! whenever I get a craving I have a guff on it and it sorts me out...I only got it yesterday, but so far in I dont want a tab.

Set my day, i'm going vapour on monday..they even do golden virginia flavour.

it's weird though, it makes me cough everytime...a tab never did!
