They had a section this month I read a couple of weeks ago about best and worst foreign players for each football league club.

For Pools: The best was Joel Porter and the worst was Football Manager 2010+2011 edition hero Ármann Smári Björnsson.

Agree? Disagree? Thoughts? Amusing anecdotes about previous shite players?

Have to disagree with the best and although it was only on loan ot has to be Jan Ove Pedersen absolute class. Porter 2nd

Depends what you class as best....In terms of ability it was probably Pedersen but for what they done for the club has to be porter

Rune Lange was decent till he got injured. Rune Vindheim was fairly rubbish.

We've had far, far worse players than Armann Bjornsson.

Technically he was a decent player he just never had the heart and aggression to play over here.

As for worse foreign players Kona Hislop!? Stig Larsen? Rune Vindheim? Thomas Tennebo? Denis Behan!? John Andre Fredriksen?

God Turner signed some rank foreign players, if I was a chairman even considering appointing him as manager (I'd be clinically insane) I'd confiscate his passport and ban him from talking about two goal leads.

Tim Sperravik, Tim fucking Sperravik for fucks sake. I don't think he'd ever even played the game before Turner discovered him on a building site on a pre season tour. Turner was getting an extension built and wanted cheap foreign labour.... FACT.

Tennebo wasn't a bad player - also had a great attitude.... Stig Olav Larsson was also far worse than Tim Sperevik.

Rune Vindheim had a quality game against Darlo when we beat them 2-0. He kept Marco Gabbiadini quiet that day. I remember a player called Scott Walker who was completely gash.....

Fredriksen was decent, never really got a chance though.

Fredriksen was nowhere near League One standard, Turner signed him on the back of one pre season friendly.

Tennebo similarly, apart from a great debut at Carlisle, wasn't up to League standard.

Saying that Denis Behan takes some beating.

That summed Turner up.

Based on something like 8 starts and about the same as a sub, thats what Pools fans are good at giving players plenty of time to settle and show how good they are.

8 games is certainly enough...

20 minutes is what some Pools fans need to make their mind up if they are shite or not

Probably a lot less at reserve team level. If a player doesnt impress me playing for the stiffs ( Luscombe and Freddy spring to mind ) then I usually take a lot more convincing once they step up to the first team.

Like many I knew three weeks before he'd played for us that Colin Nish was going to struggle at this level. Sometimes you just know!

is it only me what remember Pedersen's last 2 or 3 games - he was actually poor in those. Also - Pedersen easily stood out in the division below in a shit team against other shit teams. Porter stood out in a good team against other good teams - for year after year.

No contest whatsoever - sorry Bob you are way wrong with this one!!!

Agreed, there's a big difference between Pedersen playing against 4th tier players in the late 90's to Porter playing ten years later in the third tier.

You've got to remember as well when Pedersen signed Pools had been pretty much bobbins for six years, his quality 'elevated' us into the middle to top half of the fourth division. We got the viking hats and won a few games, it was quite exciting for the time. If we were in that position now we'd have boycotts and riots afoot  Solano would have looked a different gravy next to Stuart Irvine, Ian Clark and Denny Ingram. Don't get me wrong he was a super player, but you can't put him ahead of Porter. In Joel's last season alone he kept us up in League One almost on his own, 25 goals on one leg at times. I'd actually rate Dimi ahead of Pedersen as well when you are talking about foreign signings. Jan Ove was on loan for 3 months in the fourth division, Porter and Dimi were quality over a sustained period at a higher level.

I'd have love to have seen Pedersen in the same team mind.

Does Roy O'Donovan count as foreign??? If so he would be ahead of Jan Ove for my money. He too kept us up with his 9 goals in 15 games in a poor, confidence drained side.

As PJ said though I'd love to see Jan Ove play for us now as he's just the type who'd add some flair to outr midfield. Him and Dean Emerson with Muzza that would be tasty.

If you can adjudge Pederson the greatest on the basis of 20 games, I'm sure PJ can judge Tennebo on 17.

Oh if only Brady was eligible for this debate!

But it would be a tricky one considering Messi, Ronaldo, Xavi and Iniesta would all follow him to the Vic.
