I'm not a member of the Humps fan club, but you could not fault him for effort tonight. He's no Luke James, and he didnt win a header all night, but he showed for the ball, and the ones into his feet were all controlled and laid off to a player in a Pools shirt. Never looked a goal threat, but he certainly played well and puta shift in.

Not sure Boyd is out of favour, he is getting the minutes he is fit enough to manage, which is about 20 per game. Perhaps if he wasn't in Nexus at 3 o clock on a Sunday morning hammered, he might manage 30 minutes ?

Humphs is no striker as you say but agree he couldn't be faulted. I said after sat he should be nowhere near the first team but I'm happy to admit he proved me wrong tonight.

Maybe both he and Cooper know that this is his last season and seeing as though we're not going to get in the play-offs and shouldn't get sucked into a relegation fight then he's just giving him a few more games before he retires and also helping bump up his total appearances?

I know this probably sounds a bit daft, but it's the only explanation that I can think of!!!

I think there is too much sentiment in that idea Mr R.
Surely Cooper knows that Humps is not a part of our playing future and if we are not going to get into the play offs and also are in very little danger of going down then shouldn't he be giving fringe players/ youngster a chance?
I think it should be all about next season now and maybe Coops is waiting until we are safe before testing youngsters.
I think the reason he is playing Humps is simply that he has very little faith in the so called established alternatives.
When Lidds and James come back and Poole gets match fit again, I don't think Humps will get anywhere near the first eleven.
Whadya think??

Or maybe the manager just thinks he can do a job.

Nah, too obvious that one.

So just to sum up.

Those that werent there claim Humphreys is the antichrist and should be burned at the stake, is picking the team so therefore has something on Neale Cooper, whilst those actually there say Humphreys did OK, in what appears to have been a decent team performance.

Is that about right?

I wouldn't say that is anywhere near right Mr C.

At the risk of repeating myself I think that Humphreys has been outstanding for Pools over the years and one of my favourite players while watching Pools. Unfortunately now though, based on previous appearances and most recently when I watched the match last Saturday, he's about finished. Certainly nowhere near the player that he was a few years ago, and if we want to progress he needs to be replaced and, ultimately, released from the playing staff and budget.

I think you missed my point there mate.

I wouldnt have Humphreys anywhere near my fuuly fit 11 now. But Coops has picked him a few times, so therefore thinks he can and is doing ajob.

Unless of course this thread, is the start of the Cooper out squad.

Its quite simple. If Coops picks him, we, as fans, should have enough respect to back the manager. But no, not on here. Some even claim Humphreys must be picking the team, meaning surely, that they arent happy with Cooper.

Surely?

Perhaps a little unfair and exaggerated hearsay..? - he was in nexus on Saturday night but certainly wasn't hammered. Maybe that's the problem? When he did used to get hammered all the time he used to bang the goals in.....

I believe that Humphreys was played to send a message to Boyd and Nish who have both lacked in effort and fight for a fair part of the season. It tells them that they are way down the pecking order and that if they get a chance they better put the effort in and take it or they are out. I hear that Nishy put himself about more than usual last night....

I would have liked to have seen Larkin play against that Huddersfield back line. Pace and movement.

Mr Chip - I am not saying your mate was lying - from the brief conversation I had with him I just wondered of described him as hammered. He wasn't stumbling around or slurring words. The point about being out before a big game though is a valid one. 7 or 8 vodka's or whatever wouldn't make much difference to a finely tuned athlete after a lie in the next day and plenty of hydration but whether Boydy is a finely tuned athlete is up for debate as you say.

Does anyone know if Pools employ a sports pyschologist?

I always see Boydy out but never seen him absolutely hammered or even close to being drunk. Always just seems to be stood about with his lass or a mate. But when 99% of the people in Nexus at 3am are drunk its easy to assume

I wouldn't even put myself in a position to be speculated about joe, the rep he has too, just either stay in of go out of town, he's on enough money, 5 g a month.

It's only a short career plenty of time to get smashed after

and Nobby....

But yeah your right, plenty of time when he retires to have a drink. You'd think he'd be working his arse off to get a new contract, I mean i'm assuming all his family are settled in the town, kids etc.. and its his hometown club. Unless he's planning to go to Darlo!
