Who would say ...Getting soaked on a Friday night against Sheffield Wednesday ???

Thats the reply to whats your worst Pools memory in the fan file tonight. And from a fan who been going regularly since 1979-80 and been season ticket holder since about 1985-86.

We've lost 8-1 to Plymouth , 6-0 to Doncaster 5-0 to Crewe, all at home in the years he's been going, had an attendance of about 820 for a league game in the mid 80's. Had record run of 9 consecutive defeats this season at home. Including 6 where we failed to score. A record number of re-elections..And his worse Pools memory is getting soaked in a crowd of 6400ish in a 3-0 win with a Boyd hat trick where the 3rd goal was worth the admittance money. Well it takes all sorts I suppose.

Would anyone else put that as their worse Pools memory.

You already said mine 8-1 to Plymouth, oh and loosing to Darlo in the playoff semi thanks to Peterbrough for beating them that year in the final though.

The change in emotion from being 2-1 up to 2-2 and then not seeing a way back was awful.

If we could play a side off the park like we did that night against Sheffield Wednesday every week I'd not give a toss about the weather, what a mentalist.

I'd happily get soaked every game if the result(s) turned out the same as that night. I think he must be the first (and only fan) who puts BEING AT THAT GAME (for those who didn't get there it would be worse memory Unlucky Elvis. ) as their worse Pools memory.

Never felt so low at a Pools game in a shocking season. Only good thing to come of it was the Ben Clark incident after and Scotty getting the boot

I was at the back of the CK stand for the Sheff Wed game so didn't get wet.

Worst memory is probably every game of the 2005-6 season that Scotty was in charge of.

In the fan file bit the Mail do make a few bits up to pad it out so I wouldn't take what's there as gospel.

Mine is the Play Off final. Most people rank that as their best day but I feel sick to the stomach just thinking about it.

Mansfield away, probably about 12 years or so ago.

3-1 up with less than 10 minutes left and...

My worst day is a strange one 2006/2007 getting beat 2-1 at home to Bristol Rovers and give Walsall the championship trophy almost cried that day had my heart set on our first championship.

That was a bizarre match. If you want to give yourself nightmares there is a chapter dedicated to it in a book called 'Always Next Year volume 2'.

Away at Rushden and Diamonds. It was the fact that their 'fans' couldn't even be arsed to see them pick up the trophy that really pissed me off. I can feel a massive unhinged rant coming on just thinking about it.

Probably the worst though, Bristol City away in the play offs. Excruciating last 5 minutes or so, then got taunted by their fans, and spent forever coming home on the coach knowing had to go to work the next day.

All three of those were bad.

But at least we had digs in Bristol so went out on the lash after the match rather than suffering a long miserable journey home!

I have been going since the early 70's so there are quite a few but my worst memory was in 91/92 away to Darlo in a 4-0 defeat. I came out after John MacPhail scored an own-goal from outside the box - I had seen enough...

I got a call in the middle of the second half with some really bad news. The football from then on was irrelevant. So for that reason, it's probably my worst memory that involves Pools.

The game against Port Vale at home which was Hendo's last in charge. We just rolled over, got relegated and then the players did a lap of honour. Embarrassing.

Know your feeling there had the same thing during THAT game at the white elephant, i proceeded to get absolutely hammered at half time with my dad and the rest of it is a haze till the realisation hitting home on drive back and football seemed like nothing.

When we got knocked out by Bristol City in the play off semi-finals.

Losing the play-off final.

Losing 5-0 at Wycombe is up there for me as well.

Relegation in 2006.

Not winning the titles in 2003 and 2007.

I think that was the day i first met you. I was stuck en route from Earlsfield and if you hadnt known your way round Strood I would have gone home. Wished i had after the performance... rage

Wycombe last week was just comical - worst had to be Bristol City, or Hereford 1990 when we were 4 down after 20 minutes or turning up at Mansfield after a 5 hour journey from london to find it was called off or the 3-4 at Mansfield or.... or .. (too many more...)

Worst pools memory for me was thinking we were going to fold in 93. The cup game at sheff utd was awful. Nobody knew if that was the last ever game and was a sickening memory. If you meant fixture then either Bristol city or the final v sheff wed just for what was at stake. The darlo 4-2 at home in the fa cup is a close 3rd.

Best memory is the northampton home game in 91. My 1st promotion and a day I'll never forget

Away at Exeter in 98 or 99 when leading 1-0 going into stoppage time and lost 2-1. We where in deep doo doo and I think it was the game Chris Turner was appointed after. Then there was the 3-0 defeat at Torquay when a certain Eiffion Williams scored a hatrick on debut for them. Fecking hated Devon that year.

Loooooonnnggggg journey's back those games.

same thing happened to me.... a weekend in Scarborough when Pools were at home to Wrexham(when Jon Daly bagged a hat trick). And here's me thinking there would be an executive box booked and everything... what makes it worse is I have a few mates from over there, and they were all looked after by other Pools mates while they were here and had a great time despite getting tonked.
While I had to pretend like I was enjoying myself in the meantime.... not

Two..... first was for the play offs against Bristol City at home and I was trying to get on a ferry to Pompey to get home and the fookin jobsworth organisng the loading put me in the wrong lane for loading, row ensued and ended up virtually on the ramp, got home with two hours to spare.
The other was a night match in 1992 against Exeter and I took the lads, we won 3-1, but it was raining horizontally with a bitter north wind and the pitch looked like the Somme, we stood behind the individual girders in the Rink End to get some respite from the weather ... for all the good it did.

all of the above!!!
For an example which summed up the worst of Pools up for me... the day we lost 4-1 at Orient under Houchen was bad. I was hammered from a heavy session on the Friday and it must have rained 3 foot of water that day, while we stood on the open terrace wondering what the fuck we were doing there!!!! Laid down and died with players not giving a fuck - in those days we had no hope and that is the definition of bad memories

Far too many to narrow it down to just one:

6-0 at home to Donny Rovers
4-3 at Mansfield
1-1 at Rushden to lose the title
2-0 at Rochdale to give the advantage to Walsall
2-1 at home to Bristol Rovers to lose the title
2-1 at MK Dons (conceded in the last minute) which just about confirmed that we were going down
2-1 at Bristol City in the play offs
Play-off final

It's a good job we've had something to cheer over the years otherwise it would have been a very grim existence.

For me losing 6-0 away at Man City in the F.A. Cup in "76". I was still at school, had looked foorward to the game for weeks, got jumped on before the match, their fans were complete and utter wnkrs. George Potter was sent off for gettin' in the way of Dennis Tuearts forehead, and one of my mates got jumped-on on the way back to the coaches and his scarf nicked. Horrible, horrible damned bounders.....I still hate the barstads with a vengeance......hope they dont win the Prem.

Bristol City away in the play offs - although I wasn't at the game so can you count that...? I remember being in Bar Paris when they scored twice at the end - if I hadn't been raging so much I reckon I would have cried my eyes out.....

Nothing in football can ever be that bad....

Losing to Tamworth at home was also pretty shit......

Black Wednesday (as it is known to myself and my poolie mates), when we lost to Bristol City at Ashton Gate in such a cruel way. I still feel more disappointment over that game than the Cardiff play off final. Cardiff was (result aside) the best day of my Poolie career!!

I remember talking to a geezer in the king johns tavern after the brizzle defeat , and he was ranting and raving about when he finally gets to meet god, he's going to ask him why? Why always Pools?

The Bristol Away play-off defeat was the last time I saw Paul Mullen alive. He looked knackered, ready-to-go I'd say..the MND had kicked in big style and as I walked up to him at the final whistle he was in tears. I put my arms round him but he felt about seven stone, weak as water. All I could think of on the long journey home was if there was a God, why didn't he just let Pools win this once for Paul? Sad times.
