Aye, according to the Mail he may get a run out. Shame it's an away game. I might have a had a look if they'd been playing at Billingham

Lazy git, Rotherham's not far from Hartlepool just three and a bit hours.

See, I actually decided to go.

I actually managed to go to the reserve match today. Firstly, a few incidents.

First piece of action was Matty Robson getting injured. He tried to volley a shot and miss-kicked then tried to volley it again and went down in a heap and needed to be stretchered off.

Nice header from Bullock from a Gibb corner. Danny Wilson was in the ground watching from near the corner flag and gave Gibb some advice, must have worked a treat.

Our second goal was from Rea who just got enough to put it past there keeper.

Rotherham scored but it got ruled off for offside.

They had a penalty when Tinkler was adjudged to have taken down their number 9 (O’Grady) but to be frank I thought that O’Grady was looking for the fouled and dived although Tinkler did make a challenge but he pulled out. The penalty itself was passed back to Provett.

Rotherham scored after having a few consecutive shots in the box in a scramble; I felt that we should have cleared our lines a bit better. The linesman had his flag out but ref over-ruled him.

Rotherham scored again and my memory is too jaded to remember how.

Then Porter took a corner, it came back to him, he sent it back in and Tinkler headed home.

Provett - Looked composed throughout and made a superb fingertip save to deny Rotherham.
Williams - I thought he was different class and easily our best player. It’s good to see competition in the right back slot. He tackled well, cross well and apart from conceding a free kick looked solid.
Jones - Jones did well, looks like adequate cover for Nelson, Clarke and Tinkler should we need him.
Tinker- I thought Tinkler was good and won plenty of tackles. A nice header.
Brackstone- Again quite solid.
Gibb- I didn’t really notice him too much apart from some good crosses. Didn’t do much wrong.
Young- Now here’s a young player I’m excited about. He was outstanding, especially in the first half. He linked up well with everyone; his touches were quite good as well.
Bullock- He's improved a lot, he played as well as did against MK Dons a few weeks back.
Robson- Until he got injured I thought he was quite good and made some good runs. One criticism though is that his movement off the ball wasn’t great.
Rea- Looked solid for a youngster. Took his goal well and matched Rotherham physically.
Mackay- After a shaky start, he looked quite good. During the first half I’d say that his touch let him down but as the game wore on he got more into it. I’ll reserve judgement until a few games; it’s hard to say at this point.

Porter- I know he wasn’t on for long but when he did something he did it well. I kept thinking that this guy is different class. He played a bit close to the midfield for my liking though. I’d like to see him further. He almost scored with a header.

Maidens- Looked ok, had a fair share of the game. He didn’t shine but he didn’t perform badly.

Man of the match for me was Darren Williams just because he looked so solid.

A special note goes too…
Their number 5 (Kerr) is an absolute foul mouthed psycho. Some of the abuse he was shouting at his fellow players was quite amusing. My favourite was, “Michael you’re fucking terrible”. He must have torrets.

Nice report DG. Sounds like I missed a good un

I like Young as well, though admittedly I have seen him play more for the youth team than the reserves. I think it's only last season that he was captaining the U16s but he did enough to be included on the pre-season Holland tour. Looks a great prospect, as does Michael Rae.

How old is Young, he looks more experienced than a 16/17 year old?

No mention of Bullock in your assessment, was that a deliberate omission?

Nice report Dan.

Surely Tinkler has had his day though, good as he's been. Can anyone see him getting retained at the end of the season??

the official website reckons that rotherham had a guy playing who recently cost 80 grand. how the hell can they afford that given that they were/are in administration and what the hell is he doing playing for the reserves when the daft buggers are bottom of the league?

In defence he weren't bad, he'll do as a backup for now. I don't want to see a loyal servent go but I have a feeling he may have to go as I can't really see him breaking into the first team with Clarke and Nelse and Jones coming along nicely as well. I don't see him as a central midfielder anymore.

And that 80 grand player sure knows how to make a meal and get a penalty. To be fair, he was quite good and looked a bit of a handful.
