I'd also give CCleaner a run and see what startup programs you've got running. You could use MS Config but CCleaner is easier.

You can basically never delete anything from your computer FACT. My mate is a computer forensic scientists who works for Deloitte, basically looking a fraud, the only way to every delete anything is by over writing your hard drive (the bit thats hidden and not on your desk top etc) with new data and would take a load of time to do.

He once got our other mate to give him a flash drive and it looked basically empty apart from one or two files my mate ended up nearly retrieveing (or part of the files) of nearly everything he ever had on there.

The army puts and angle grinder to their old computers so that should tell you everything.
