This is my virgin post and I wanted to get opinions on the enigma that is Adam Boyd. I have been going to pools since 1991 and in this time Boydy's season during the Cardiff campaign has to rank as the most outstanding of any player in this time. Surely this is the make or break season for him, he shows touches but I fear he is long past his best. It is not rocket science but we obviously need a goalscorer, last season it was sweens but we cannot rely on a midfielder to be our top scorer. I think we need to see the Boyd of old back but I cannot see it somehow but I hope I am wrong. I've seen him on the pop a few times which has probably been his downfall.

Boyds downfall was a manager leaving him on the field injured for 20 minutes too long in 2005 against Yeovil.

Ive lost count of the amount of rumours about his drinking/gambling/drug taking & never really been taken in by any of them.
I have heard suggestions that he is looking good for the coming season & certainly hope thats true but only time will tell.

I keep hearing quotes "I've seen him out on the drink", well I haven't, I've seen him attending club do's but never lying under the tables. I think Boydy needs to regain his pace, he was never blessed with a lot, but if you can't take on and pass a player in this league you'll do nothing.
Oh and fek-off.

All the rumours about the lad are bollocks, and that injury was major setback but it's not the whole story some of the blame also lies as his door. He was about a stone heavier than he should have been last season and when he was out of the team I didn't detect a massive amount of desire to get back in it. He's coasted through two seasons back at Pools and quite frankly been a waste of £80,000 plus wages (it's a good job we got half a million for him  )

But something seems to have dropped towards the back end of last season, he realises this is his last chance and has done something about it and worked hard and got fit.

For different reasons based on last year both James Brown and Adam Boyd got contracts based of capability not performance but I'm glad they're both still at the club. I'd love to see them both have great season, if they do we'll do well.

i've slated him in the past for his apparent attitude and fitness, but he look leaner and keener. i'll back him to the hilt this season, its a clean slate as far as all our players are concerned.

Boyd looks fit, lean and keen. Hope for the Boyd of old, he seems to have realised its up to him now and I said in other posts he'll be top scorer this year-a bold claim I know.

The drink thing is bollocks. Ive been out round the town virtually every weekend for the pas ten years and ive never seen him falling about. Its jealousy towards him really, a nasty little rumour mill. I also once seen him get terrible stick from a pissed up dickhead, when he was minding his own business in a bar. He's got his head down pre-season and the slates clean for me. I hope he gets a hatful for us.

oh, and i forget to mention that he's was one of our all time greatest players at this peak. People tend to forget that.

The injury he got against Yeovil was a minor one, I believe HUFC decided that he should have surgery to investigate and prevent the problem happening again - had everything went well he would of been out for 4-5 weeks. A superbug infection and a hell of a lot of complications later and Adam was out for about 5 months. Ironically enough I don't think the surgery was essential - as very little was found wrong.

He hasn't helped himself a lot over the last few seasons, he has carried a bit too much timber, part genetics and part lifestyle and diet but I also think that something has clicked with him. I reckon we will start the season with Nish up front but think that Boyd and Poole would be the best suited partnership...

i'd say all the rumours lately are bollocks, last few years he's out no more than the rest, but back in the early days he made mistakes and the rep has stuck with him.

Clean slate for him this season, hope he does the business as i reckon boyd n nish is our starting partnership.

I agree with that as only every seen sweeney and boyd out once in time and tide. Dimi was always out and unlike the other two there was about a 6m radius of space around him, i wonder why?

I'm 100% behind the lad but it is frustrating when you know he has the talent but there is just something missing from his game these days. For the record the times I saw Boydy out were in Yarm. Incidentally I bumped into Neale Cooper down there when he was manager, he lived around there for a bit, top bloke, organised a signed shirt for me and had plenty of time for you on the occasions I met him.

Anyway..... Boydy to get 15 goals this season.

I've seen Boydie out loads of times but I've never seen him anymore drunk than the next person.

As far as I'm concerned he can do what the fck he wants on a Saturday night after a game, if it's directly before a game then you have to question this though. But I've never known anyone see him out on a Friday night and I don't think he's that stupid.

We should be treating him like a new signing, forget whats happened previously and hopefully we can get the best out of him. If we can then it could be the difference between a mid-table spot and a play-off finish, as was the case in the two League 1 play-off seasons previously.

Have you seen his profile pic on the official site he is looking a lot leaner.

I might have a cheeky bet on him being top goal scorer in the division

Most of these shiite rumours about Adam were set away by people who never go to pools.
Adam has had his good and bad times and from what i've seen and heard from his own mouth he is ready for this season.

i know his secret, he's been going for lunch with mouldy and to be fair he's not had chance to even touch his starter.

There were small flashes of the top Boydy last season, now, he looks in better shape. I'd be surprised if he didn't get at least 10 goals this year, I think we're all going to be pleasantly surprised

If it has helped Adam to scores loads and take us to glory my sacrifice has been worth it.

even in the past couple of years he has still shown flashes of what he can do - that finish against Leeds was out of this world. If he performs like he can for even 65%-70% of the time he'son the pitch, then we will score another 20 goals this season, either him getting them or someone else benefitting from his skill. The lad has unbelievable ability on the ball, as does James Brown.
If both of those are on the top of their game, then there are none better up front at any other club in this league.
That, really is a fact

at his peak, he was a really good away player too Boydy. Him and Ritchie Barker were last two forwards we had who used to scare home defenders away from home.
