We're hoping to get to LA - the wife has an old university friend out there who made the mistake of suggesting we spend a few weeks with them!

Cant afford anywhere
(where's the crying one?)
Might be able to afford a week in a cottage nearby by autumn but I doubt it.
Unless I get a dreamlike book deal of course, then I'm off to Sicily to celebrate

Shameless advertising for B&B to follow ...

Get yourself to Gigha man - lovely beaches, peaceful, 2 bars and a B&B run by a Poolie - what more do you want like! I'll have a word with the boss lady and get some Bunkerite rates sorted. Nay bother

Well, sometimes when I'm roaming round Teesdale or the N Yorks moors, wonder why we bother going further afield at all.
By the way, was told recently that it's not too difficult to get a grant from Northern Arts to be able to take time off to write something if you've got a definite piece of work in mind. Try their web-site?

I know of a good walk you can do in early May. Speaking of which, should I do it again?

Cheers Grabec. Quite happy getting a cottage nearby to be honest...one week a couple of times a year would do me and its much easier with a three year old and one year old. Just a bit skint this year but in September the boy starts school proper and we wont have to pay nursery fees so will be able to afford that again I hope.
Ta for Northern Arts tip. My book is finished. I will be sending out to agents within the month and this time I'm really confident. Not sure if I'll get any money to leave work mind but thats the dream. I was thinking of posting my first chapter on here as well as the blurb.
Want to do some writing therapy in prisons next though and will be researching that so I may well approach the Northern Arts so thanks :sweet:

Hmmm, I wonder if a sequel to R.L. Stevensons's "Travels with a donkey in the Cevennes" would qualify. :sweet:

Thanks for that. When we get our kid off to college, we're planning a long languid hebridean interlude, so will be knocking on your door...

Well, congratulations and good luck. I for one would like to read a bit, if you can post it here.
The prisons idea is just exactly the sort of thing Northern Arts would be happy with as they favour community-related projects, apparently.
Chip's internet sit-com is 'community' in a way, so that might qualify too, but....Richard's donkey......erm just maybe
