I had the little thieving scrote by the neck outside the Museum when he frightened my then 11yr old Daughter approaching her for money. The car-park attendant from Morrisons saved him from a smack. He should be jailed.

Gives a huge sob story of how he is homeless and needs money to buy 'a warm pie and a hot cup of coffee'. He is very polite. A bloke I used to work with said to him, ill take you in this cafe and buy you anything you want, he replied with i'd rather have the money. Sniffs gas and glue all day long.

I think Catcote Road was closed due to flooding, we drove past Summerhill at arond half 3 and the whole road was flooded, some cars were turning round while some even drove down the pavement. When we turned down Elwick Road a fire engine was driving up on the way to the flood. We came back along Catcote Road at about 6ish and the road was all taped off.

Had an older bloke ask me for some bus fare so he could get to his doctors appointment and receive his chemotherapy treatment last week. I was a little taken aback at first and informed him that I had no money on me. I then went on to tell him that if I could make his day a little easier I would gladly give him a bottle of wine which I had in my car. He gladly accepted and moved on. He was obviously lying, but I just can’t believe some of the lengths people will go to to try and get money. Thinking the bloke had cancer I felt morally obligated to try and help for some weird reason.

Loved Eddie Lee's response to the judge after being his own counsel that he had not had a cup of tea for 4 days and he was "busting". How the judge didn't laugh his arse off i don't know.   clappp clappp

I've generally found the bloke to be very polite. He normally used to ask people for money in and around the railway station or the marina. Like stated above he has a well rehersed script about living life on the streets and says he hates asking for money but could he have a £1 for some chips.

He has proably been around Hartlepool off and on for 17-18 years, I don't know whether he did used to live on the streets but he did look and smell like he did. Once when he asked I was actually on my way to Joanna's so I did buy him a chip butty which he wolfed down.

Although I've always found him to be polite I have heard stories of him intimidating other people, and like has been said he had a massive glue problem....

the bloke hasn't exactly helped himself, and it's difficult to sympathise with someone who ultimately chooses to live their life in this way
Cue comments on how he didn't choose.... because oh yes he did. I know the fucker

No such thing.

I caught him chewing our lass for money over the marina one day when I came out of a shop or pub or summat and scattered the cheeky get.

You may find him "pleasant" but imagine a bird on their own being approached by him.

Exactly Ripper. My girl was frightened by his approach, and anybody thinking that Eddie Lee didn't know EXACTLY what he was doing, and the best way to do it, is mistaken. I'm not the sort of bloke to actually strike anybody, but I was literally two seconds off clattering him. It wasn't just the approach to my kid, but his attitude when I pulled him about it too. I had no idea who he was or his "legend" at that time (about 2007). He didn't even look remotely shaken by the fact I'd had his neck in a grip for about 30 seconds that left marks..brazen as hell. Rot In Piss.

He isn't a legend he is a product of a shite childhood and then some piss poor personal choices as an adult.

Depressing that the word 'Legend' can be used about someone who begs for money but then blows most of that money on things that aren't really the first on the list of stuff people need.

While I have it in me to empathise with people who find themselves at the very pit of existence, I have little sympathy for someone who manages to do that in a country where there are more than enough charities, benefit schemes, and housing projects that nobody should have to beg or sleep rough. Even if the bloke has a mental illness we have a health service that is the envy of the world that would look after pretty much anyone with any condition free of charge so it isn't like that could be an excuse.

Sorry to be dramatic but if people like Eddy Lee are held up as Legends ironically or not then the town is fucked beyond belief.

As it has been said above Eddie Lee could get very nasty when he saw a female on her own and apply pressure to get money.
He and people like him are an embarrasment to the town.

Back in the early 1990's, me and my mates would frequently be approached by Eddie and he'd always ask for 20p. Since 1991 though, inflation has risen by over 72%*... yet, 20 years on, I had the misfortune to be approached by him again recently and he asked for....20p.

People have been quick to condemn him, but in some respects he should be applauded for keeping his prices competitive. Tony Weegram could have learnt a thing or two from Eddie. Over that same 20 year period, his chippy butty prices rose from about 35p to £1.50 and beyond... where's the justice?

72% inflation. Wages must be lagging way back. What percentage have the wages gone up in that same period?

cant find it over 20, but over a ten year period (1999 to 2009) average salary only rose from £18,396 to £20,900 (13.60%). I think average salary is somewhere between 24-27k now, depending on which measure you use.

I've been a substance misuse worker in and around the towns of this area for a while, and have come across eddie in both a professional and non professional capacity-in the non professional ive had a particularly unpleasant experience with the lad,and know of others where he has been a bit nasty too.
Im all for people who want to change their lives for the better, however some jsut don't want to-and are very happy upsetting other peoples, and in eddies case its a familar sight to me-ive met far worse individuals who are full on evil for the hell of it,but he gave me and my partner a rough time once and it left a sour taste in my mouth about him. I dont wish anyone any harm but I wont particularly shed a tear eitherif he is gone..........but he was not one of the worst thats for sure.and i should know.

In mickey fritters case, know the lad all toooooo well ! many a year played alongside and against the legend that is and he was a player in my team when we won a cup final at the vic :-) !

I once asked him how many kids he had- 'bout 6' was his reply................... classic from a laughable legend lol

i've played on the same team a couple of times with the frittermeister, and my lasting memories of him are him running fifty yards to try and lamp a 6ft 8ins neanderthal in a church league game and fritter not being able to reach; or the one time i've seen him take a shower after a game and he kept his kit on. without a doubt, the hairiest man in the town for his age.
