We have Mr Isle of Mull Poolie and now we have Mr Gigha Pooly (welcome to the board by the way). I myself have a penchant for a faraway group of islands which look rather like Benbecula. What is it about Poolies and obscure islands ?

I'm good mates with a lad who is originally from Islay.brings me back some cracking whisky,a sample of 25 year old lagavulin currently going down nicely as I type.
Island records mr Ecg was that blackwell's baby.think its a offshore jamaican thing but a quick scan at my dusty vinyl shows such classics as
hello john got a new motor by alexei sayle and the buggles video killed the radio star. a sad admission that both are in my collection and also that the feeling did a superb cover of the buggles track the other night.
oh and wasn't robert palmer on island

Dawlish - a mate round here has just brought me some Spanish home made whisky, El Pocino or whatever. Fecking paintstripper but certainly hits the spot. Now, drop of Bunahaven - theres a cracking Islay dram

not sampled that brew but I'm sure if you wanted to set up a mail order business the bunker would provide some custom!!

I spent a fortnight in June in the Shetlands on holiday with the mrs, the inlaws and the brother in law.
I never saw one tiny fucking ray of sunshine for even a second.
But what a great holiday.
Beautiful stark countryside. No trees. Terns swooping down to attack you if you went along the cliff tops. Its their domain not humans.
Good amusing image of my mam in law fending them off with sticks.
Half a mile walk to where the mam in law stayed every night, double vodkas and tonics before great food, walking back with some kites that were bought for us, flying them dead high, coming back to a smoke and some great whiskies.
Wouldnt mind trying the Orkney's. You even get trees there

I'm not going all "during the Wawer" but I spent a week on the West Island of the Falklands a few years ago and it was probably the most peaceful time of my life. It differs from the East Island in that its much more mountainous. It's almost a spiritual place.

I can imagine myself living under a rock in the middle of nowhere - it's our lass who wouldn't like living with the hippies.

I went to Sanya, an island in the South China Sea, and nearly died scuba diving. Friggin boat driver never came back for us, the daft bounder!! Fell asleep on the beach or summat. It took half a day in the blazing sunshine to get us off the rocks.

This I found out when I came back with cut and bruised feet and raging sunburn. Oddly enough the boat driver was nowhere to be seen.

It's true, even in submarines its wrong. Ever met any submariners? they're a very odd lot.

I have yes, an ex-submariner anyway, while I was on holiday in Jamaica. I did my first dive on that holiday and obviously I was full of it but he had an almost morbid dread of the sea, wouldn't swim or even paddle, or even show any inclination to talk about it. He seemed to think it was an evil incarnation.

I just had him down as a nutter.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but in my eyes it's you lot that live on an obscure island.

It's just a bit bigger than mine.

Have you got 'Nice Enough to Eat', Elvis? I used to love that album but lost it during one of my house moves. It was covered with smarties
