I know Elvis reckons James Brown will be the one. But I reckon he is wrong. And the man who will prove him wrong and me right is . . . Gary Liddle. The guy is AWESOME. He can play anywhere, he is a natural footballer and is so good at this level it is embarrassing at times. How Wilson got him from Boro I will never know. I have seen a lot of the Boro kids play and this lad could have cut it in the Premiership. What was Southgate thinking of? stupid

I know where you're coming from but I'm not sure teams would pay that amount of money for somone who's a defensive midfielder/left back/centre half despite his brilliance and versatility. If big clubs are gonna splash out and gamble (and it always is from the lower two leagues) then its always on a goal-getter or goal provider. Thats what makes them desperate.
Cant see anyone else but James Brown having any chance of doing this but then again, I wouldnt place a bet on it. I think he's destined for bigger things and a Sunderland bid makes a lot of sense if we go up and he performs in the same way in division one.
But a million pounds? I dont think Mr Keane would pay that for a player from Hartlepool.

So why can't these players achieve their Championship ambitions with little 'ole Hartlepool?? They bloody nearly did a couple of seasons ago but for a daft managerial decision. Having said that it was almost worth going through that for the results of the apology!! :grin:

It's already happened. The mighty Andy Linighan was transferred to Arsenal for £1.2 million in 1990. Surely the first Million Pound player from Pools.

Never said he did go to Arsenal from Pools. He went from Norwich. But he was the first Pools player to reach a million in a transfer anywhere. Worth every penny too!
