What's it gonna be to you, a sportsfest that'll have you glued to the telly or a borefest where people in unfeasibly tight lycra supervised by people in blazers with stopwatches and tapes, take part in 'sports' nobody relly gives a flying toss about any other time....? sctatchinghead

The Olympic Games.

The only sports event where millions will be glued to the TV watching sports most of us are amazed anyone takes part in. And then what, we all get excited when we win the gold in the Skeet and the Trap Shooting events.

And we all will our fabulous mens Hockey team to glory.

And then we watch 875 hours of womens gymnastics.

And when its all over we forget these people ever existed.

Ah, but if you turn on the TV you have to. The BBC have blanket coverage of the damned thing.

No other sport at the Olympics gets the coverage Gymnastics does. And it is probably te most boring, as you dont know who has won, because their is no finish line etc.

But the Beeb love it.

I've just been trying to look into what events I might go to.

I'm hoping to see the British football teams at some stage of the competition, it might be at the prelims rather than the finals. I might not be able to get a ticket for the semi-finals.

The highlights for me will be the Athletics on the Middle Sunday and the men's singles and the singles and doubles badminton final.

Getting a ground pass to watch whatever tennis matches at Wimbledon you want to see sounds like a great idea as well.

I''ve got beach volleyball, volleyball, boxing, handball and wrestling also on my list, but its far from final yet.

Well first of all, that's not a definitive list.

I've had to whittle the sports down to those that I would like to see, then which ones I can afford to see and whether they clash with any others.

Now I've got that list, I've got to see whether these tickets are going to be avalable or not. I'm not the only one applying.

I expect the football and the athletics to be quite popular.

If these choices are popular, I've then got to adjust that to suit my budget.

Near terminal boredom, for me, but then I think the same of most spectator sports.

I'll re phrase it then. Most sports might be fun to do, but very few are entertaining to watch being done. Picky.

The only thing I've leant from the Olympics is how to yawn with my mouth shut and once I'd left school I didn't have to go through that farce any longer. The Olympics remind me of Wimbledon fortnight, that's the time when tennis courts, stood empty with tumbleweeds blowing across them for the rest of the year, suddenly become very popular. It'll be day after day of sports journo's and commentators verbally ejaculating and probably also just ejaculating at the sight of someone shaving a thousandth of a second of the world record of some sport that only exists in the Olympics with a fan base of the paricipants family and girlfriend, if they have time for one that is, what with the years of training in some lush part of the world.

I don't think he's realised it, but I think he's advocating the exact opposite. As for being difficult to watch, so would concrete setting as a sport, or grass growing ... but there's always a mug who'll fall for the guff and watch.

No, but you need hallucogenics to make most of the sports interesting or a good supply of amphetamines to keep you awake.

On reflection, I think he was replying to the post by 6halves, 'don't all sports have spectators?'. Which makes it quite a decent joke.

Sorry, Grabec. I didn't mean to say that.

What I meant was for example if you go to watch the judo. And don't know what the different names for the scroing system are, or they aren't explained well by the media, nobody would be able to fully understand whether one attack scored or not.

I don't mind watching the Olympics. The fact we've forked out so much money for them when other things are being cut left, right and centre makes me wonder if its all worth it but then I suppose that's another discussion

I'll watch the table tennis. Not everyone's cup of tea of course but I think it's quality entertainment.

Well, we did win the bid in 2005. When the state of the economy was very healthy.

What about one hoot?

Could you manage to give one hoot about any of the rest of it?
