How do i get rid of these ruddy pop ups?

Have just connected me Mam up to the internet via NTL broadband, alls going well but we keep getting these rather embarrasing pop ups-(messenger service?)
What do I do?

use firefox instead of internet explorer

Update windows through 'windows update' goto control panel and then into 'automatic updates' assuming you're using XP then there are updates that stop popups. In addition there are other things you need to set up, check out the 'Technical' forum on this site.

Start - Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services - Scroll Down to Messenger Service (Messenger) - Right click Options Disable + Stop

Good point. It depends which sort of popups you're getting - do both.

Thanks fellas in the end did what Lenny Henry suggested as it sounded simplest and it seems to have done the trick. :grin:
