Shame, but to be expected. Its actually snowing again now, with more forecast. When will it end.

Real shame, and with heavy snow tomorrow - the New Years day game must be in doubt. If that goes, the next home league game will be 2 months after the last...

it's a shame that any matches are getting called off, cos while the players are getting a good run going with successive victories as they are - it would be even better if the team was playing as often as the bleeding fixture list

The run is running despite the matches being called off!!! Tranmere, Bournemouth, Yeovil, Huddersfield all had long gaps between them, but I am suffering from lack of footie..... sadx

I'm beginning to get quietly confident that we can turn Watford over.
It would be nice................give a boost to the kitty and maybe a bit of a fund for when the games come thick and fast when we will probably have injuries/suspensions etc.

Four and a half degrees outside, big melt going on, the garden is soft enough to stick a garden fork in easily and no snow forecast for today or tomorrow according to accuweather so well done Pools on calling it off so early.

Have modern day groundsmen forgotten how to cover a pitch properly to protect it against a bit of frost? sadx

The playing surface has been battered by heavy snow and sub zero temperatures in recent weeks and more snowfall overnight made the decision to call the game off a straight-forward one.

Local referee Ross Joyce was at The Vic just before 9am this morning to take a look at the pitch and made the decision after seeing large areas of the playing surface frozen and fresh snow in surrounding areas.

Doesn't matter if your garden is soft enough to stick a fork in ripper pools isnt!

Met Office disagrees with Accuweather....

Hartlepool five-day Mon27Dec
1500 1 °C SSW 14 mph 26 mph Very Poor
1800 1 °C SSW 12 mph 24 mph Moderate
2100 1 °C SSW 8 mph Moderate
Tue
28
Dec 0000 1 °C SSE 5 mph Moderate
0300 1 °C SE 7 mph Moderate
0600 1 °C SE 6 mph Moderate
0900 0 °C SE 5 mph Moderate
1200 1 °C SE 6 mph Moderate
1500 1 °C SSE 6 mph Moderate
1800 1 °C SSE 3 mph Very Poor
Night 0 °C SW 3 mph Poor

And it suggests snow flurries in the early hours of tomorrow too

Met Office is generally dogshit for forecasts, trust me. Accuweather is the only one that gets it right more than it gets it wrong as we check them for work every day.

With regards Mr Yubep's points, read the last line of my previous post...

Surely a sheet over a bit of grass wouldnt stop it frosting over?

As someone else has pointed out before, dont we have to pay for oreints travel costs if the game is called off after they've set off too?

Thats an expense we dont need.

I believe that they used to put straw and the like over it in the past rather than just the "thin cover" that they use nowadays which is being shown to be as much use as a floppy cock in a gangbang.

I was saying as much the other day but having driven up from Surrey this morning, there was more snow in Hartlepool than anywhere else on the 280 mile journey. If the pitch was soft under the snow, I am sure they would have tried there best to get the game on.

Pools need to do their best to get the match on for new years day, potentially a big crowd and a good following from Oldham.
Even if it means advertising for volunteers via the press to clear the pitch etc...

Ripper, do you have grandstands shadowing large areas in your back garden?

pools were on sky sports news earlier and had an interview with the assistant ref who was also concerned about where they would put the snow off the pitch aswell because there was already mounds of the stuff round the outside of the pitch

I think the fact that we're playing a London team will have played a telling part in the decision to call it off this early.

Once again we are far from being the only team in the league to be left kicking our collective heel again with an additional 5 games being called off.

I'm going to miss the Oldham game too as I'm going to be away. I think the away game at Notts County and one of either Watford or Bristol Rovers are certainly going to have to be pencilled in.

Is it Macclesfield who often put metal bins etc on the pitch and start fires in them?

We have to get the Oldham game on, a fixture back log is not what we need when were resting our best two players every other game.

I don't think any sort of backlog (providing it doens't get too ridiculous) will be a major problem. We have clocked up some fantastic results of late which have bought us some serious room for maneouvre. In other words I don't think it would be disastrous if we lost a couple of the re-arranged games due to playing weakened teams given the ultimate aim for this season is simply to achieve a comfortable mid-table finish.

I'm sure Wadsworth will think of something to guide us through any congested periods we might encounter.

Not a problem, even the greenhouse has safety glass in it.

the away fans will have to watch from next door's upstairs window (which is a restricted view)
