How much does it cost to send and receive texts from Sweden?!
Our fran has texted her mate there about a hundred times!
I looked on the tariff thing but its vague...

If Fran is in the UK and her mate is in Sweden, it shouldn't cost her any more than her normal rate, but her mate in sweden will pick up a cost for every text she receives.

It's the receiving them that'll probably cost you. About a quid a go at a guess.

Well I'm on Orange and I know that if I send/receive text whilst in the uk to a phone abroad, my charges stay the same, however if I'm abroad it costs me to send AND receive texts, so I'm making the assumtion that all networks work on the same business. Sooooooooo if thats the case, Fran should only pick up the costs she would have if her mate was round the corner . . . . . . . . her mate in Sweden however . . . . . . . . could be a completely different story unless she's made some prior arrangement with her network provider.
If they have smartphones, there's an app called WhatsApp (59p) which lets you send/receive texts anywhere in the world for nowt, using wifi if available or using 3G, but I suppose if it uses 3G abroad there'll be costs involved for data charges, though it might well still be cheaper than roaming because of the amount of data involved. But certainly if both parties have access to wifi, it's deffo free. I only heard about this yesterday and have been chatting by text to a mate in Sydney this morning, and another one in town. Seems a good app, and it doesn't eat into my text allowance.

she has a smart phone [samsung galaxy s....maybe 5] and has unlimited texts here...

dunno about her mate
so they'd both need wifi and smartphones for that app to work?
