..... but I get really annoyed when ever I drive into certain car parks in the town with those 'strictly no football traffic' type signs up. Apparently it's OK to park up and walk into the town and spend your money somewhere else, but if you park up in a supermarket and buy a couple of bits for the match you're not welcome. Which is why I generally avoid the shops who do have these signs. Does this apply to any other groups? I don't recall ever seeing a 'NO TALL SHIPS TRAFFIC' or the like.

How do they know you are football traffic anyway?

Why should the supermarket car parks allow people to park there who don't use the shop?? banghead sctatchinghead Many people who park in morrisons for example WONT pop into morrisons at all. As it gets towards Christmas and the car parks get full who can blame morrisons/asda and the rest for clamping down on non-customers. If you went to do your shopping at a supermarket and could not get parked because loads of freeloaders had parked there to attend some event then you would be a bit annoyed about it.
And I know for a fact that both Asda and morrisons are clamping down on people who park there and walk over to the shopping centre without calling into their shop so its in no way restricted to football supporters.

If pools had a car park for customers and morrisons shoppers parked there on a match day denying supporters the spaces then imagine the outcome!!!

I know people on here like to moan but at least find something justified to moan about. Those god-awful self service tills is a good example, but the car parks are there for paying customers only. While the car parking they provide is free then they have every right to have the 'no football traffic' signs up.

You're missing the point. I'm not denying their right to restrict use of their car park to their customers and if they want to clamp drivers for doing so they have my full support. But, why is it considered acceptable to go to the point of a number of them erecting signs that higlight one group in particular from using their car parks ... and YOU are one of that group.
I'm actually 'moaning' at the arrogance of erecting signs discriminating against one group of people, a more careful wording of the sign might have hepled or is it acceptable just to class all football supporters as pariah's ....?

I agree but im not sure how they could word it better. they cant really state on the sign that non customers are not allowed to park there or else those supporters would just pop in after for a stick of chewing gum or a newspaper.

Simple, just have a sign saying 'PARKING FOR CUSTOMER USE ONLY' as they did for years and they can clamp who they like. I don't care if they're football supporters or not, I just don't like US as a group being singled out for this treatment.

But then customers would park there for a few hours [and either attend the game or go over town] and simply pop in the supermarket for a Hpool Mail or something after. What would people do - park in the multistory for a few quid or park in morrisons and have the inconvenience of buying a 30p newspaper before the vacate the car park??!

They probably want to discourage cars with football stickers etc, which might invite 'interest' from rival supporters? Probably they don't care about fans cars being done over, but they won't want things spilling over to involve their customers' cars.

Another option is limiting parking to a maximum of 2 hours and enforcing this.

You are totally missing the point here. I don't care what they do as regards parking, they can have public executions for all I care, they can clamp them football supporter or not, I don't care .... I merely object to football supporters being singled out as unwelcome.
