Absolutely it is! If someone had info about a terrorist attack. I would happily chop off their extremities one by one until they talked.

Think about it another way; if someone kidnapped and was going to kill your child in say two hours and you had hold of someone who knew the location but wouldn't say - how far would you go to get them to tell you?

By the way, we've been doing 'interrogation' for years.

The moral case says it's wrong, but it's realpolotik for those who haven't led a sheltered life. It's going to happen. People can express their disgust, howl at the moon and mount their moral high horse for all the good it will do.
It's the way of the world , they ALL do it, it's universal sadly.

Problem is everyone knows that they need to win the population over to make wars like Iraq and Afghanistan work and everytime stuff like this gets out a few more kids are radicalised, specially if it turns out the torture victim is innocent.

Even if you think it is waterboarding and so on is justified for Shrub to go public backing it is deeply stupid, he's basically supplying Al Quaida with recruiting material- The Great Satan Backs Torturing Muslims.

Anyone seen "Unthinkable"...They use techniques like this to obtain information. I agree that if someone is threatning to kill dozens of people then they should be tortured to give information

water boarding on muslims is not affective, they aren't scared of death. but they are scared of pain, get the old bow saw out and go to town on fingers first then start working your way up their arms.......... i think i have issues after reading that :(

I read somewhere that waterboarding is probably the most painful physical torture technique. It simulates drowning. So you would be dunked under water until you are forced to breathe in water, that rush of water inside the lungs is apparently excruiating. You are then pulled out, before slipping into unconsciousness and cough the water up, and then its down for another dunk.

I read somewhere that the Americans road tested waterboarding on their own CIA agents & the longest anyone lasted was 14 seconds

true, they lie you at a 45 degree angle and pour water over you it gives the 'sensation' of drowning, nothing to do with being dunked!

I agree with most of the points on here about water-boarding, hoever the question isn't is it a legitimate way of getting information but indeed how relayable is this information once it has been achieved.

Myself and indeed anyone who is being tortured will say anything to make it stop, it could be a pack of lies and a wild goose chase as they might not know anything about the answers the people who are questioning requires.

I mean I wonder how many times this information obtained from such a method has been robust enough to prevent another attack.
