Only six posts in and the gratuitous slagging of players starts.

Peter Hartley is a centre half told to play out of position at left backwhich no doubt led to his inconsistent displays and it was his first full season in first team football, so yes i expect a specialist left back will be better. However ask Horwood to play up front and he'll be shit.

Lightning Tree could find the negative about winning the lottery

That'll do for me.
I'm putting a weeks wages on him to be top scorer for pools next season.

No need to be funny, was just saying that surely a report from a couple of people who saw him last season and the fact that he is a proven left-back is an improvement on what we currently have which is nothing.

There are no negatives to this lad coming on trial.

I'm thinking back to the Linigans but I'm sure there's been a few since??

It's not relevant at all.
Just wondering why in this town we don't produce many players who go on to play league football, and those who do foook off elsewhere.

We need a left back, Horwood is a left back, he is available and unless we have a better prospect waiting to sign for us it makes perfect sense to have a look at him.

I'm still waiting to hear of these "exciting signings"
17 June 2010- " and turner also revealed that he has made further progress on the transfer front and is hoping to be able to unviel some new recruits as early as next week. We've co tinued to work hard and we are hopeful that we will have two players signed up next week and hopefully they're the types of signing that will excite the fans"

We are a relatively small town and most of the better young footballers such as Hartley, Brown, Taylor, Murphy etc get picked up by the 3 much more wealthy clubs that are within 30 miles of here or get picked up by the scouting networks of the really big teams.

If you mean at HUFC you may have a point as it seems to be very rare that a player such a Boydy or Sweeney comes through the ranks at the vic and makes it as a 1st team regular and the situation with players like Rowell and the way Hartley was left to play in a position he so obviously wasn't cut out for raises questions about how good our youth development is and how clever our management are at getting the best from youth.

Still lets slag the new bloke off because he must be shite as he isn't that famous.

When we beat the old enemy 3-0 at their place, I recall that Horwood was their best player that day IMO.

It makes sense at this time to take player's on trial.

But are we sure he's on trial, it's the first day of pre-season and the ball probably wont be out for a few days, it'll be running and gym work until early next week.

Some players train with local teams to get fit for the forth-coming season when they are out of contract. And Pools is about as local as it can get for Horwood.

I reckon it may be something like that, just my opinion.

Not what the official site says

http://www.hartlepoolunited.co.uk/page/ ... 49,00.html

and according to the PoolsWorld interviews they got the footballs out this afternoon. What is the world coming to

Horwood is an ex-Loid.
He played in excess of 20 games I think, back in 2006-07 season if I remember correctly?
We had a look then but decided against it.
According to the Loids I know he did ok there & played consistently well.

I think he started out at Sheff U but don't think he ever played for them.

Think it's right we have a proper look at him & maybe give Hartley a go at centre back.
Hartley looked much more comfortable there in the reserves last season & was one of the main reasons why the lads finished so high up that league.

This guy is a left back, a proper left back. The first one we've had since Rob McKinnon back in 1847, give or take the games when Hugh Robertson wasn't injured. This can only be a good thing, it means that we're not using slow fat midfielders as left backs or stealing a decent midfielder to play in defence because a knock on effect of signing a left back is that Hartley can play in his natural position and Liddle can play in his.

I'm not sure where the downside is because one things for sure, there ain't many championship or league one players want to sign for a team that is currently one of the favourites to go down from league one.

That makes sense Mr I, now if we can find a goal scorer to play up front with Boyd, Brown or Behan we will be in business.

Slightly harsh on Mark Robinson; very harsh on Paul Cross. But the point is valid. We've been crying out for a specialist left back for many years. Getting one in on trial can only be a good thing, and the Carlisle fans seemed unhappy to see him released.

What on earth is a 'specialist' left back?, does it mean he can do other stuff like appendectomies?

By and large you are a left back or you aren't
