He certainly talks a good game from his PoolsWorld interview. I like his pedigree of bringing young players on - but as he says - only if they are good enough. Seems a bit of a shame he won't have the chance to have a go at developing young Rowell. Good luck Mick.

You can't ask for any more in terms of experience he's worked at just about every level of the game, he should have loads of contacts as well.

A very good appointment.

I'm happy with that appointment.
He was a coach under Sir Bobby Robson, who rated him as a coach. That'll do for me.
Could be an inspired appointment because the likes of Barron and perhaps Humps will learn a bundle from Mick.
Turner now needs to give him complete freedom of the training ground and tactics and the development of those tactics because, quite simply, Wadsworth has forgotten more about that side of the game than CT will ever know.
If CT steps back a bit and does what he's good at and leaves the footballing side to Wadsworth and his team, we can make the strides forward necessary to consolidate our position, play some football, attract the missing fans back and attract the players to the club that we need.
It is a pity that Rowell and Jones have left because whatever problems they had, I would have liked to have seen MW have a go at sorting them.
Welcome Mick and all the best our kid.
We have a coach who eats, sleeps and breathes football, with the added bonus of knowing the game and footballers inside out.

some quotes from Sir Bobby Robson....

On the departure of Wadsworth:

"We've lost a very competent coach who for some reason was subjected to some criticism at the end of last season that was not justified, unfair, not correct and out of order. Yes, the team had a blip. We were all involved in that, but that blip was not caused through Mick Wadsworth's coaching ability.

"After two years of sterling work, is that how people wanted to thank him? We lost £40m of senior talent through injury last season and somehow Mick was to blame.

"We've lost a very solid, reliable guy and I'll tell you this - I have an administrative staff, I have a medical staff and I have a technical staff and a lot of people at this club are absolutely devastated."

On his opinion of Wadsworth's abilities:

''I sat next to Alex Ferguson last Saturday for five hours (at Wimbledon) and we watched a bit of tennis and talked football, and I think so much of Mick Wadsworth that if I had not been manager of Newcastle and I knew Alex has lost Steve McClaren to Middlesbrough, I would have recommended Alex take him on board.

"That's how highly I rate him and I don't mistakes like that when it comes to judging people's professionalism."

His last job was manager of Chester.
He was sacked after something like 2 wins in 14 games.

but he hasn't came in as manager, he's came in as a coach. Some people are great coaches, but can't hack management

the Chester situation was a joke though Ralf. Let' give the bloke a chance - it's an outsider which most of us wanted, with bags of knowledge - like most of us wanted. Lennie Lawrence did an excellent job guiding Paul Trollope at Bristol Rovers, and though it's not ideal to have Turner still in charge, his input should surely be a lot better than the previous bloke's, and should help Turner make the right choices more often.

jeez some people are easily pleased.

i'm totally ambivalent about his appointment to be honest. he hasnt done anything of note for nearly 10 years, and if it means turner stays as manager with west being the fall guy for a pisspoor season, then im absolutely gutted.

my main hope for the summer was that we would be getting a new manager. if we arent then i cant see how things will improve.

i honestly cant think of one single positive thing that has happened at pools since the season ended. its gonna take some huge signings to rekindle the last embers of interest i have in hartlepool united. sadx

Have to admit I'm not sure and have already said to a mate I'm reserving my judgement at this moment in time.

Some seem happy, others wont be, I'm on the fence. As a manager his last few years didn't set the world alight especially at Chester, but as other's rightly say a good number 2 doesn't make a good number 1.

I still have a problem with CT in charge, so the problems may still exist, hopefully the two can work together by "bouncing" ideas off each other.

And hopefully it will be successful.

Im not disappointed at wadsworth being appointed. Im just gutted that turner is still here. I would MUCH prefer Wadsworth as manager and turner as the tealady. Incompetent fuckwit.

Hopefully IOR/LOG/whoever will give turner the boot long before the end of the season so that Wadsworth can take over and get us back up the table.

I've got two huddersfield supporting mates and they both despise the man.

As long as he's not involved in picking the team and signing players we should be ok, but not an appointment to get excited about.

Aye, them were the days. Days of Santa buses, orange balls, dogs on the pitch, players who'd run through a brick wall for you and then hitch a lift home on the back of a milk float with the fans; days when impoverished supporters turned up wearing clothes handstitched from individual sugar sachets and scraps of orange boxes stolen from outside Walter Willson's; when postmen always whistled and knew your name, when you could leave your back door open and club chairmen invited you round their gaff for a cup of tea and a frank open discussion of club business. We'll never see the like again. sadx

 Well if you put it like that.....

I dont see how people are happy with this appointment - Turner is still in charge of running the side and thats what we all wanted to change. If Wadsworth was coming in as manager and Tubby was moving on or upstairs then fair enough but i dont particularly want to see Turner in charge again next season, the record above doesnt give me any confidence at all and it seems that they are both as bad as each other! Maybe Turner got rid of West as his record with the reserves has always been very good and maybe felt the chairman might see this and give him a chance. Gets rid of him and appoints someone with a shocking record like his own and he keeps his job still!! Not happy with this at all! I was expecting a new management team after West got let go not just a new coach!

Genuine question for all of you.

Has Wadsworth been appointed as first team coach or reserve team coach? Or a different title?

Ok, seeing as though you're just a sarky get I've had a look myself.

Apparently he's first team coach.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 769640.stm

And apparently Colin West was reserve team manager.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 740048.stm

So on that basis it implies that Wadsworth is going to have more of a hands on approach to the first team than West had, which would equally imply that Turner will have less input and that it's quite a major change to the set up.

But why overlook that in favour of slagging everything off or sitting on the fence.
