Looked a decent prospect, I doubt we will get him though.

Leeds would get him before we did - if not them, some other championship side I would think...

It would be the lever for many i'm sure.
However possibly a good attempt of marketing by pools.
Its very highly unlikely that the guy will be in a pools shirt next season.

If we are seriously considering offering a loan deal to Newcastle for Ranger then we have definite advantages.
They want him near Benton so that's not a problem. Commuting to Hartlepool is a lot easier than commuting to Leeds or Ipswich. He would be virtually guaranteed a game at Pools ( a la O' Donovan). O' Donovan's exploits as a loanee won't have gone unnoticed.
A joint package involving Lua Lua would also be a positive by keeping them both together, giving the Newcastle coaching staff easy access to monitor their progress.
But most of all it would go a long way towards convincing the sceptics that Pools are ambitious and do want to make progress.
I have never really understood why the so called big three haven't exploited the close proximity of Hartlepool when it comes to getting real games / experience for their youngsters. These kids are able to live at home, don't have far to travel and are under the watchful eye of their coaching staff.
We need to big up the advantages we are able to offer instead of being negative about our chances of competing with the big clubs.

1. If it was a choice between Hartlepool and Leeds who would he pick.
2. Would Newcastle subsidise his wages which are probably round the 6k mark.
3. Would he want to stop at Newcastle and fight for his place.
4. Would he want to play for a manager who would probably play him out of position.

The horrible spectre of Godwin Antwi crosses my mind when I think about loans from "big" clubs involving automatic first team football. Can't see how he kept getting picked unless that was the reason.

But from Newcastle's point of view lending him to Leeds makes little sense. They won't pay all the wages of a player who isn't theirs and might not get a first team game regularly. He might not develop much if he doesn't play often. At Pools or Carlisle he will probably play, should develop and could become a sell-able asset if he scores a few, we wouldn't cover all his wages either but at least Newcastle are more likely to gain from it in the long run. Add in Derwent's points about being nearby and we should be in with a shout as long as a good chunk of his wages is affordable.

Turner might not inspire faith but Newcastle know that Hodcroft is one of their fans so he'll look after Nile for them.

More importantly do you think he was named after Nile rogers from Chic? And can we have Love Bump by Lone Ranger as his goal music?

Well in that case Derwent, any idea why they haven't just announced it?

I've heard exactly same thing Derwent - Was mentioned in club other night too.. Hodcroft back to Scotland and Turner as chairman (as he is employed by IOR) with a new manager in place.. Something along those lines.

Bloody hell mate, that's a question and a half.
When I fully understand the announcing philosophy at Pools i'll come back to you.

My guess, and it's only a guess, is that the announcement will be designed to have as much impact as they can possibly gain from it...............that's if it comes to fruition of course.

I think an impact announcement is paramount to driving our season ticket sales and to the re kindling of the Town's interest.

They have got to come up with something.

Cartwheel is the absolute minimum.

Ranger would be a cartwheel signing, however I'm more excited by the rumours of turner becoming chairman and a new manager in place.
For what it's worth I think he will make a great chairman.

Does Mark Venus' family still live in the town? I keep seeing this old blokey in the town and he always seems to wear a wolves top with Venus on the back.
