I don't think the 3 points deduction is a massive surprise to anyone on this board. I think most of us were expecting it.
The bit that has been the kick in the nuts is the way it happened. To be informed that we'd escape a points deduction only to find out that it was "reported" incorrectly is sickening. I think this is why people are now reacting more angrily to the situation

I can't even begin to understand why this would happen. Surely the journalist in question would not go to print without the information coming from a very good reliable source (Allegedly).

Hence, what I'd like to know is the sequence of events for the story leaking out. Who was the source of the story?

Also why has a number of threads mentioning the said journalist been removed?

The initial reports in the press were made on the back of the FA punishment and before the Football League announced the points deduction. It was purely a timing thing and an incorrect assumption that all punishments would be announced together as far as I can see.

With regards the removal of posts, I personally removed posts calling a journalist things like c*nt, prick, tw*t etc as I don't find them appropriate. A post listing his work address and phone number was also removed by me for the same reason. If you want to call him stuff like that do it to his face if that floats your boat but I reckon very few of you would.

Hope that helps.

let's be honest here - vitriol should not be aimed at Lough - he acted in good faith writing an article based on information given to him
His only crime was to believe that source of information - let's be honest considering what some newspapers have published in the past eg The Sun, this is not deserving of vilification. The guy is as honest as the day is long and would not have gone to press if he didn't think there was some truth in it

Thanks MR I - that does help.

FYI - I do not "want" to call the person any of the names listed either via the bunker or face to face.

HTH

PS I stick by my theory that the people are now taking the points deduction so badly because they had there hope riased for a short period of time

Fair do's, I wasn't really suggesting that "you" do- it was aimed at the folk who posted the stuff initially.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Mr Ripper - I'm just a little bit sensitive since 3pm

I think you did right.
The comments were made by Lough on twitter & the echo blog as his opinion & were never stated as being facts.
He doesnt deserve to be abused nor put at risk by having his address & number posted on the internet.

One thing I am certain of is that nobody will be more upset about this than Lough himself.

Apologies if I started a thread that went OTT, but I still say it was a poor piece of journalism.

I think it was done with the best of intentions, me like everyone I’m sure was waiting for a text or call all day and it hadn’t come, he thought he had the news we wanted to know before everyone else and went with it.

I heard exactly the same from a different person, no points deduction, this person I’m sure got this inclination from the same source as the Echo.

No need for a witch hunt just because someone made a mistake, unless your name is Turner of course
