Perhaps the best thing about Borer along with Alan Fearnley Records. And they're both long gone. sadx

It's probably my memory playing tricks, but I'm sure Romer Parrish had three floors, the top one being for model trains? I literally used to spend hours in there, slavering over cars and Star Wars toys. I can't imagine a shop like that existing ever again.

Talk about an Aladdin's Cave of a shop. I can mainly remember that it was difficult to move around in it because it was so full of every toy imaginable.

Alan Fearnley records, what a shop, and if he didn't have what you wanted he'd get it for you in a couple of days. What happened to customer service? You go in HMV and ask for something obscure and they say no we haven't got it, not would you like us to order it. Winkers.

It used to be like a pilgramage walking up Linthorpe Road to Fearnleys. I used to get sweaty palms when I walked through the door, wondering what gems you would find. He was almost guaranteed to have everything played by John Peel the previous week.

It's weird to think how you just couldn't get hold of some records, not like today when you can download anything in a few minutes. I don't know which situation is better.

Don't think I've met him, but I'm bound to encounter him at some point. My gran used to say that us Poolies get everywhere, and we always seem to find each other. She was right about most things, including that.
