Ive not seen it yet but at least if it was dodgy then it happened in a game which we had lost anyway. Hopefully it wont happen in the last minute when we are winning by a solitary goal.

His arms are in the air but from when the ball leaves their players foot there's about a yard from Hartley's hand so what can he do about that???

Not put his arms in the air in the penalty box. Its what he will be coached.

I would have been pissed off it was us and we hadn't been given a penalty for the same thing. Don't put your hands up like that and make it easy for refs to give.

Stonewaller from where I was sat.
Anyone who jumps up in the penalty area with his arms in the air wants shooting.

John is correct there:

Law XII of the Laws of the Game (which are set by the International Football Association Board and used by FIFA) lists the categories of offences that may result in a caution. Broadly these are:

Unsporting behaviour
Dissent to the referee by word or action
Persistently infringing the Laws of the Game
Delaying a restart of play
Failing to respect the required distance of a corner kick or free kick
Entering or re-entering the field of play without the referee’s permission
Deliberately leaving the field of play without the referee’s permission

So does that mean that a referee should not book someone for committing his first foul of the match, or does that come under 'unsporting behaviour'?

Surely this gesture is generally understood to mean that he doesn't want shooting? sctatchinghead
