Maybe he was supposed to head for the corners and stay there. Foley isn't the type of player who'd do that as he showed. You don't really need to chase a third goal when you're two up with ten to play do you??

Dopey...

I thought the idea of bringing Gibb was to ease the tension by adding a bit of hilarity to the game-worked for me :sweet:

And another thing Doctor................Gibb came on for Williams. Which meant James Brown moved from his position to go up front.

So in effect Gibb replaced Brown.

I was advocating Foley to replace Williams.

Thick Peking Duck.

22 minutes plus three they didn't know about, pie breath!!

And it took James Brown another 12 minutes to start blowing and get taken off, FROM HIS STRIKING position, not off the wing.

So in effect you're talking through your kebab chute.

Dopey!!

I though Effion was carrying an injury?? Correct moi if I'm wrong!

Hey listen Offshore, don't let the facts get in the way of a good yarn from Fat Barrabas!!

I know, and you know, that Effy's got a calf strain, which must come under some discomfort with his short burst game so, Danny's after giving him a break after an hour or so. Keep him fresh for the next week.

And at that stage he couldn't know that Browny's legs were going to jelly in another ten minutes, and anywaym he probably wanted James to get his ovation for a great game.

He's got Bullock, who Dibble dislikes anyway, Williams D and the other two to choose from. Now they both would have ended up on the pitch anyway, being the only two attacking options and to keep the team shape.

But Mr Pickpickpick would have done it differently which is why Danny's in the dugout and Dibbles in the pie queue.

Quid pro quo. refred stupid stupid

But it sounded to me like Browny looked in danger of getting another one all game, so why not stick him up front?? It's no-ones fault he didn't last. It must have been the best option AT THE TIME. So was it a bad idea letting him loose in the middle??

Even I could tell that from 6000 miles away. stupid

I have no problem with Eifion coming off, but all he had to do was put Foley on.

Then if James Brown tires with 10 to go, stick Gibb on then.

Its not rocket science you know.

It must be the time difference. :sweet:

Only in Hartlepool could a thread like this start

We won, without breaking sweat, undefeated in thirteen and yet they still find something to gripe about

Calf strain, he's been carrying it since before the Wrexham game. I got it off the website.

You posted your thoughts, we posted our replies

The substitution had no ill effect on the game; we didn’t play brilliantly, but still won at a canter

What did you want us to do, agree with you just for the sake of it?

So its official then, Ali Gibb is the new undisputed Vic crowd scapegoat now that Daly has gone?

Now I don't rate him but the lad got stick on Saturday when he actually didn't do anything wrong. He worked hard, closed people down, and actually put one decent cross over as well. I remember one instance when Micky Barron knocked a pass straight out of play late on.... who got the pelters from the crowd? You've guessed it Ali Gibb....... Also ironic cheers when he got the the ball. I mean I know every crowd has it with certain players and of course everyone has payed money to voice an opinion but I have always thought this type of 'support' is surely counter productive?

I wasn't really directly replying to your post, more to certain sections of the crowd on Saturday and other stuff i've read on message boards.

I suppose though the substitution meant we actually had a right winger playing in his proper position and a centre forward playing up front so in that sense the change was logical as nobody was playing out of position...........

I'd have brought Foley on as well like

Foley for Williams = direct replacement.......i.e.....like for like.:

But Brown up front for Williams is like for like, striker for a striker. And seeing as Brown was playing out wide, then a winger for a winger. Then a striker for a striker.

So they were all direct replacements.

Doughnut....... stupid

No I was in the Cyril Knowles.

His first two touches where met with ironic cheers, then a misplaced Barron pass was greeted with "fucking wake up Gibb." Micky Barron even apologised for the pass!!

In a few weeks time the return of Porter, Boland, Duffy (that's ERIC Duffy, of the Fenn Street Gang) will see Gibb drop further down the pecking order, thus granting ADG's wishes.

Think of a bench featuring Porter, D.Williams, E.Williams, J.Brown and Provett will yers?!

Oh jeez.

For the last time I was only saying that Foley should have come on to replace Williams. SO THAT HE HAD A DECENT TIME TO TERRORISE bURY'S ANCIENT DEFENCE.

I'm actually with Dibble here, the argument/moan isn't about the fact he came on Saturday, it's the worrying fact that Wilson actually rates Gibb more than Foley. The fact he rates him at all is even more worrying.

There's something about Foley he is obviously not keen on, after his superb performances in September/October and Gibbs awful performances ever since he signed; I'd love to know his reason for preferring him.

Foley has played 34 games and scored 1 goal

He's fast...fair enough, but so is Matty Robson and he's not good enough either.Squad players at best.

I like Wilson's philosophy of not playing young players(through the ranks)....that's part of the reason we were relegated under Scotty and Stepho.

And we seem to be doing pretty well without Foley and Robson and Maidens et al.

i would question the games you say Foley has played ?
he may have come on in those games but a ten minute spell won't help him to progress
this kid will be a star

He's only started 5 though, the rest have been 10 minutes at the end.

My point is that after his superb right wing performances earlier in the season, why persist with the useless Gibb?
