Actually it was a well fought game from the beginning. And before I report Charlton are suffering with low attendances more than us, with absolutely no home supporters attending to see the game.

We conceded early to go 1 down but despite pressure from Charlton all first half we stayed in the game at only 1-0. Flinders almost single handedly keeping the score at 1-0. His penalty save just before half time where he dived to his top hand left side to tip over the bar from a shot that was travelling somewhere in the region of 100mph had to be seen to be believed.

Second half early pressure from Charlton resulted in Pools falling 2-0 down and a belief from the Charlton 7 that another away defeat was on the cards. But tactical subs from Turner and Pools reverting to 3-4-3 turned the game a back three of Austin Collins Clarke (Hartley was subbed) a midfield of McSweenie Jones Humphreys Monkhouse and a front three of Boyd Bjornsson and Greulich, who came on for Hartley saw the game change as Pools surged forward time after time and Charlton defending resolutely. Monkhouse and McSweenie at times giving us 5 up front with Humphreys running the midfield. A Boyd goal brought Pools back in to the game with 20 mins left and we started to believe we could get something. Then 2 Humphreys goals inside 5 minutes put us in front, the 2nd a screamer from about 40 yeards flew in to the roof of the net, with the Charlton keeper just watching, and with 5 mins to go we thought we had the points. Then out of nothing Charlton got 2 in 4 minutes to leave us 4-3 down going in to stoppage time. The board went up showing 4 added minutes and Pools surged forward again only for Charlton to find row x time after time to clear there lines. Then we won what was to be the last corner of the game and Humphreys put in to the box where Clark rose like a salmon to plant his header in to top corner, the travelling fans went mad on. Almost straight away the whistle went and Pools had drawn 4-4.

Ratings.

Flinders 9 outstanding 1st half, maybe at fault for 3rd goal

Austin 8 helped launch attacks and sound as usual in defence

Collins 8 won almost every header

Clarke 8 great header for 4th goal

Hartley 6 unlucky to be subbed but as was tactical not really his fault

Sweeney 7 looked to be getting back to his best(replaced by McSweenie)

Jones 8 Alongside Humphreys ran midfield

Humphreys 10 outstanding today ran the show sprayed short and long passes all over the pitch. Charlton had no answer to him.

Monkhouse 8 getting in to box causing all sorts of problems

Boyd 9 beginning to look like the Boyd we know ,

Bjornsson 8 alongside Boyd gave Charlton centre halves no time and ran them ragged

Subs McSweenie 8 give left back torrid time when came on assisting in couple of goals

Greulich 8 caused problems with his pace and helped create spaces for the goals.

All in all great result but should been better.

Yes what can be said about all them.

No snow anywhere near Kings Cross, must be a southern thing, get little and it makes national news.

Points at Northallerton, yes what the F*** what that all about, at one stage I nearly got off to use a lighter to un freeze them they took that long.

Race wars well I missed most of that so you'll have to report on that one

Bus to nowhere.... Yes, just why did you get on that bus, when we where outside the takeaway and it was going in the opposite direction to the hotel. Must be a tourist thing, getting on a red double decker bus!!!!!!!

Rabbits.... Yes they love running in fresh snow leaving prints all over
Drink.... well we managed to put plenty away

Suduku.... Yes for those who can do them , do not try to explain how to to Mutley , his response was is there not a single box of 9 squares to put the numbers in, response of well that could just be done writing 1-9 in any box, Mutts reply I don't believe I said that rolfl rolfl

Jews with funny Hats and Half a Coat.... Yes did you google Jews and find what that was all about, I still reckon it's the best stag weekend dress I've ever seen rolfl

Everton.... Yes just why were they in East London drinking before the game

Chips,Ham & Eggs.... Reason I missed the race wars breaking out went to eat £1.99 wetherspoons special offer

Ron's Balls....L0L.... Yes I did pinch them (Chinese by the way from takeaway)

Shit Kebabs.... Well was you that said they were shit as you scoffed the F****** lot

Fenchurch Street.... Yes what the F*** that all about, wanted to visit Green street and tube didnt stop there so decided to go to end of line was approx 7 -730 and all the pubs were f****** shut

Oyster Cards....yes just how do they work hardly used them and had nothing left on it

Complaint/Compliment Forms.... I have another foot to walk on after buffet trolley bloke ran over it then stood on it, And what do information people do at kiosk's sorry sir 9;25 is cancelled you can get the 9;55 ok thank you can I have a complaint form please just in case I have to stand, his reply you don't need one them sir you don't know you'll have to stand, me.. yes true but you don't know I wont so just in case. Then he give me the F****** wrong one give me the COMPLIMENT one.

Getting Lost in a Straight Street....ROFL.... Yes the only man in the world who can get lost on a straight street is Mutley come out of hotel turn right go straight on turn right at 1st street follow street you get back to pub we were in before checked in, Mutley comes out gets to street pub on and gets lost sctatchinghead sctatchinghead

You forgot the best one, to the underground tube worker this morning, excuse me mate can you tell me the time and platform of the next tube to Kings cross. His reply sorry sir I can't we don't operate the actual tubes. sctatchinghead sctatchinghead

And people on here think it bad that the town is full of plastic mag,s , scouser,s manc's, we were in Barking (east end) in pub with Arsenal/Everton game on full of F****** gooner's jumping up when they scored, one even sat there watching with out getting a drink then left when final whistle went.

Superb match report and from an exile's point of view just as good as a real one, in fact better than most. Particularly enjoyed Clark's salmon goal at the end.

If I pack in Poolsworld will you do one of these every match? We'd beat all the "big" clubs, win the play-offs and I'd be none the wiser. Might be a bit pissed off after paying for the flights to wembley though.

It would have thrown me as well. Though I prefer Victoria Frances to Cezanne. What,s your opinion of her works.

I'm beginning to despair of Dibble. First 'poetry isn't poetry if it doesn't rhyme', and now this. Any one would think he was conventional or something.....

Also, I like cubism.
But I sometimes wonder if a non-migraine sufferer could have 'conceived' it.
(Non-migraine sufferers won't understand that comment.....)

come on pubey, you have to remember when these works of art were painted and they were radical at the time. Now if you were talking about modern art I could have agreed with you as some of that is shocking, like that shed-boat-shed thing that was nominated for a turner prize

Radical or not compost they still look like they were painted by a 6 year old.

Is it possible to draw better than a painting??
Anyway, I'm guessing you mean it's not 'realistic'....but it's not meant to be.

You are beginning to despair? Just beginning?

In November I had to be in London for business. the company I deal with are in Trafalger Square.

They took me for lunch in the National Gallery, in the restaurant that is on the top floor.

Anyway....they decided to show me round the gallery before we had lunch and started our first meeting.

I have never seen so many people looking aimlessly at so many pieces of rubbish. Some of those paintings are worth millions. If they were all sold this country could almost wipe out its debt.

Yet because its culture  yes I know I rolled my eys  we would rather keep the art.

Not 30 seconds walk outside the front entrance of the gallery there are people sleeping in doorways.

Now I might not have any culture, and I am proud of that fact, but I have my priorities better set, than any of you that think overblown extravagances like that art gallery are worth more than giving homeless people a roof over their heads.

And anyway, most of the pictures in there are fookin rubbish. Just cos some dickie bow wearing nonce can talk about some of them for hours, and Melvin Fookin Bragg will do a south bank show on them.

Sell the fookin lot and do something useful with the cash.

And get some four year olds to draw new ones......most of the posh cu nt s that go in there wouldnt know the fookin difference anyway.

Up the revolution.

same with the vatican, sell all the stuff they hord in there.

One of my favourite paintings I have and it was a present is painted by my cousin and have to say its very good wierd pop art picture of a tree, my second best is one my mate has and its painted by an elephant, I think that says it all about my art knowledge

my dad went to the vatican and saw the sistine chapel, his comment of it would look better with a nice coat of Emulsion didnt go down to well.

I don't really despair....I'm going to compose a rhyming sonnet for your next birthday.

I don't know the answer to your other question, even if you narrow it down to 'would the world be a better place if you could eliminate poverty in return for giving up art?' I don't want anyone to starve or suffer, but if the price for curing poverty were that real works of art should disappear.......well, I'm not sure.
Anyway, it's not an either/or question, probably.

I am gobsmacked.

I stayed last week at the Strand Palace Hotel. Quite posh for me, and yet strangely cheaper than the premier Inn at the embankment. I digress.

Anyway, there was someone sleeping in the doorway the night I stayed there. Now I was there on business only and the hotel was booked by the firm, yet I still felt a c un t, when I staying there whilst some poor fooker freezes outside.

Well, look at it this way. Everyone has a spare dress and enough to eat, but there's no art...
But as I said, it's a sort of trick question because the problem really is the commercialisation of art, and the ridiculous prices it fetches.
On the other hand I've had a similar argument with people who say artists/writers/musicians etc are anti-social elements in a world where people are starving. I think people who think that are just plain wrong.

Do you mean you think it's wrong to do that while people are starving? Personally I never look at blokes with crossed legs. That way there's no problem.

not much of a revolutionary you are ya?!!
you could of given the poor cold sod a floor to kip on at least thus showing us all the way to a betterer future!
or is a small case of some being more equal than others?!

musicians sit with crossed legs because they would rather look at nice pictures ,preferably, of naked lasses [hence the leg crossing] than feed a tramp.

Can't see much wrong with fatty's logic; a picture of some odd looking tart in the Lourvre is worth enough to feed a country for several years. Iy can't be right. As for the Vatican and its wealth, I was almost excommunicated when I pointed this out to Satans brides 30 odd years ago.
