Went into a supermarket this morning at 7 , which shall remain nameless for now and bought a couple of papers and bread. I went to the checkout and put my stuff down behind a woman who was being served. the lass on the till said she was closed now and could I go to another till, I looked around and there was no other till to go to and pointed it out to her, in the best traditions of customer service she told me she was shut, I again pointed out there was no other till open. At this point, a supervisor approached me and said come with me and we'll sort you out......she then lead me to the self service tills. As she pprepared to show me the joys of doing their job for them, she was visibly taken aback when I said no, I want to be served by a person, why should I do your work for you. She then adopted the old come, come mode and insisted i try it as there was no other option, I had to use the machine...game set and match to her.. look there are no tills available...but there was an alternative, it's called dumping your shopping and walking out.
If people are happy using these things, fair enough, I want a choice, .. and why should I do their work for them, to increase the stores profits so they can sack all the till operators and replace them with a tenth of the number of 'supervisors'

I can see where your coming from but on a lunch time the tills in morrisons are massive, i used one of the new self service y'day, i was in and out within minutes and it was so much quicker, and i even put my salad box through as a tiny one when it was actually a large one he he

I refused to use those things in Tesco the other week, the thick wifey was trying to insist that they were great even when I pointed out that they were doing the likes of her out of a job- she tried to say that it was creating a job for her supervising 4no. self service checkouts and couldn't see that meant that they had to employ three less people to man the four checkouts. stpid

Plus the useless things are only any good if you're trying to nick stuff by pretending to scan it as more often than not they don't work properly and arse you about no end and I pointed that out to her too.

Mrs R told me off when we got outside.

It probably is to the folk who'll end up getting paid off if the supermarkets get their way in convincing you lot to use automated checkouts.

It's "me, me, me" with you isn't it Mr Tax- you need be more like me and think of others.

I hate the way that you have to keep asking for bags these days. They only ever give you one at a time despite it being obvious that you have a trolley full of stuff and will require at least ten.

Yeah I guess you're right, I bet the redundancies are in their droves now that Morrisons have got a couple of self service tills which hardly get used.

I hate the 'Do you want help with your packing' question. What possible problems could a fully abled mid 20's male possibly putting some bread into a plastic bag?

He's only doing his job.

If you've paid the correct fare let him look at the ticket for as long as he wants.

I was in Tesco's one evening after a gruelling drive to Devon for a meeting, my mate was managing the place. I had about six things in a basket and I got the 'we're shut, can you go somewhere else??' shite.

I said yeah, Sainsbury's, and fooked off.

Cutting my nose off to spoil my face like but when you're tired and they're rude and you aren't 22 or summat and used to eating shit, there's a point to be made.

No he's being RETRIED! The deposit he left behind at the checkout has provided fresh evidence linking him with a series of war crimes, including the hanging of the monkey on the Fish Sands.

Unfortunately Mr Snowy I'd guess you were more upset about the 'do' than the supermarket staff as they're just there filling their time in between breaks. Have you noticed how the talk on the checkout among supermarket staff is usually about who's on break right now and when will it be their turn.

I suppose the most effective thing to do is to make a mental note never to use that supermarket again but you could end up baking your own bread and growing your own vegetables on an allotment.

In all seriousness, it's just piss poor service. You don't antagonise your customers, end of, no matter how big a pain in the arse they are.
Of course I'll go back, as all the staff aren't like that.

I have a similar gripe about doing unpaid work.
I NEVER wash out the tins and bottles before I dump them in the blue box.

They are probably going into a roaring great furnace which will get them a fooking sight cleaner than I ever could.

The reason why you are asked to wash out cans etc before recycling is because recycling factory's don't have a licence to recycle food waste. Different industry see.

It was 3 days before christmas..............yes it was my birthday. I went to asda to get the christmas goodies in....the usual shit that people buy.

Anyway, I had a trolley over flowing with goodies. Got to the checkout to find myself in a queue or rather a number of queues. Each checkout had at least 20 people in each queue. All with huge cargo loads of goods.

I tried to find a smaller queue. There wasnt one. This was back in the day before they at least attempted to have some customer services.

There were though, 6 aisles being unused.

Now I wasnt happy with this. It was chaos in that godforsaken place, and I didnt want to join the very long wait.

So, I went to an unused checkout. Emptied my trolley load of goods onto the conveyerbelt, and I basically loaded the conveyerbelt. I made sure everything I was going to buy was on there. I pushed the trolley through, moved the bit of chain they used to have that blocked the access, and waited.

A superviser came along and asked me what I was doing.

I said I was waiting to be served. Only to be told that that checkout was closed.

I asked why she didnt operate it as she seemed to have nothing else to do.

She told me I would have to put everything back in the trolley.

I replied, wouldnt it just be easier to serve me now that all of the goods were on the conveyerbelt.

No came the reply. You will have to move the goods.

I replied, in that case, you can move them, and I walked out.

That showed them :coool:

So I went to tesco instead. And stood for hours in their queues. :uhoh:

Made me feel good in asda though.

  clappp

I bet there was no Food in your Trolley though....you certainly wouldn't have walked out then!!!!

The worlds gone mad then!
It will not be long then before I need a license to process my food into Shiite.

I used the self service tills a couple of days ago and it saved me a lot of time, no hassle and I'll be using them again. A sound addition to the shopping experience.

..... and good for you. I think we can safely say that the acceptance of contemporary marketing ploys to cut jobs, increase profits and make the buyer do the work on behalf of the profit makers is safe in your hands lads. You rebels, you wild things, go for it, charge the auto tills with your salad bowls and sod the world eh? rolfl

I've heard of no job cuts at tesco, asda or morrisons since these things came into effect.
