That gap is quite a significant indicator when you think about it. Because even if Darlo now string together an extraordinarily sequence of results, if we don't stay well ahead of them it almost certainly means we haven't been producing promotion form!

Example: if Pools get a 2 point average from all their remaining games for a total of 87 points (easier said than done), that SHOULD be just about right for a top three place given the leaders are still producing that kind of form or thereabouts.

Now if Darlo then got an average 2.5 points from all 19 remaining games, which would be a fabulous achievement and an amazing turnaround (and not impossible, as Pools have shown), they still wouldn't catch us up.

Moral: small gap = Pools doing badly, so we really do need to mind the gap!

Of course it doesn't need to be the Darlo gap we mind. It could just as well be the Bristol Rovers gap, which is probably a FAR more sensible one to be arsed about, eh?
