I'm behind the manager and the team, always will be.
That won't stop me airing my disappointments from time to time.

We need them to maintain the standards that they can obviously achieve, with added consistency.
They need us to get behind them, so let's do that.

Both the fans AND the players and management have a part to play. If the players and management play their part then the fans will too. It is a two way thing. If CT gets the players playing the ball on the deck then the fans will be right behind them im sure.

CT cant go blaming the supporters all the time. Once managers start doing this it is usually the beginning of the end. If it keeps going like that then his time will be limited.

I get behind the team. I go to every home game and I never moan or boo, just encourage.

Anyone going to ignore CT's cries for support?

Or, like me, do you think he is right?

Where does he actually make any cries for support? Or did you just read the headline? sctatchinghead

'People keep telling me about the ball being in the air and we have to keep it on the ground - of course we do. But when the opponents are kicking it long and packing their defence in numbers it's tough'

You are right Chris it is tough, but this is where you earn your money. A lot of the teams coming to the Vic this season have played like this and it's down to you to form tactical decisions to play against this and have a Plan B. We have a player on the right wing who is easily capable of scoring 20-25 goals in a season but he is seeing very little of the ball and you don't seem to have once considered playing upfront, even for the last 20 minutes of games.

i would love to see all of these occasions where turner has blamed the supporters. People again are reading incorrectly between the lines, in my opinion!

sctatchinghead

He has quite blatantly criticised the fans on a number of occasions recently.

the closest he has got to criticising the crowd from what i have read was when he said he would rather the crowd vented their frustrations at him rather than the players as it could damage their confidence. That was in response to boyd and behan being subbed.

Hardly a criticism for me. Apart from that he has suggested that getting behind the team would be more productive than getting on their backs.

Unless of course i have missed a scathing attack from turner about how shite the crowd are at creating a positive atmosphere, in which case, i would be inclined to agree with him!

Sorry like, but its about time James Brown took the game by the scruff of the neck. I have no problem with him playing where he does, but if he isnt getting the ball, he should go looking for it. The last home game he just stood out wide and never got involved.

Monkhouse gets frustrated without the ball, and ends up searching for it. Brown needs to do the same.

He should be popping up all over the place, and making runs beyond the front two.

My only concern over what I have just said, is if CT tells him stay wide all the time. banghead

Browny and Monkhouse could, and maybe should, destroy teams at this level. I want to see them doing it. They are exciting as hell to watch when they are on fire.

James Brown reminds me a lot of George Boyd from Peterbrough, who at this division made defenders look very stupid and ordinary and he set up alot of machail-smiths goals. Brown should be doing the same he is a wasted talent if CT is telling him to hug the toutchline.

I don't doubt any of that, what I am saying is that recently Turner's answer to our problems in the final 3rd are to take Boyd and Behan off and bring Bjornsson and Larkin on with 20 minutes to go after a sustained period of lumping high balls to them. Has he ever played Boyd and Brown upfront together? He has admitted himself that teams are hard to breakdown at the Vic so it's acceptable for us to play hoof and hope, a manager with any real intelligence would be mixing things up and using other options such as playing our most natural goalscorer in his natural position.

Plus you didn't answer my question about where he has cried for support? sctatchinghead

More of a rallying cry. Thats how I read it anyway.

And he is right. A win on saturday and we will all be happy as sandboys to be where we will be after 14 games. 19 points.

To fire back at what soemone said last week, if we have 19 points after 14 games, and that continues till the end of the season we will get 62 points. Going by last season we would finish 13th.

Hands up who would take that?

Yes please

13th would be OK, I think we have the players to get us in the top half though. A good manager would see us finish in the top half, anything less than that and I think the manager has to hold their hands up and say we have underachieved.

As chip mentioned the other day we have a very tough few weeks at the start of 2010 and we have to get as many points as humanly possible befor Christmas as I can't see us getting much from the run of games after Gillingham where we have Charlton (a), MK Dons, Bristol City (a), Norwich (a), Leeds, Southampton (a) and Huddersfield. People said our start to the season was going to be tough and we responded well to that but those seven games could well drag us truly into the shit if we don't accumulate enough points prior to it.

We have a chance of getting something out of most of those games. Bristol City will be tough though.

:uhoh: :uhoh: :uhoh:

Of course we have a chance but we haven't performed against these types of teams over the last few years and we have continually struggled to perform at grounds when there is more than 10,000 people there.

If we are lower than 15th at the start of 2010 then I (and many others including yourself) will be looking at that run with serious concerns that there is a chance we could get dragged into another relegation fight.

Hopefully it won't come to that and we'll pick points up from the home games we've got coming up against the likes of Tranny, Orient, Yeovil and Oldham. If we don't get at least a couple of wins from them four then things aren't going to look too pretty.

If the opposition are 'packing their defence' and you were Manager would you....

A)Play the long ball over the top....bypassing the Midfield....and hoping one of our Forwards can get a header in or knock it down to a team mate....bearing in mind that the Opposition Defence Is Packed Out???? sctatchinghead

OR....

B)Play the ball along the deck which will go to a team mate....(hopefully)....and keep passing and moving towards the opposition goal???? sctatchinghead

confised

Infact we didnt play the long ball all game against Brentford. I think we actually over played at times without actually going anywhere with the ball.

Wasn't it you just last week that was saying you'd heard a rumour from a good source that Turner WAS advocating the Long Ball game and that the majority of Players weren't happy about it???? sctatchinghead sctatchinghead

In fact, I'm sure you said on here that it was a Player who'd actually said the above to your source!!!! confised confised

Some peole love a good rumour ... and some people love starting them and just how many of these 'rumours' are proved genuine in the end...?
