Very few US Presidents have won the Nobel Prize in office, so he must have been doing something right.

At least he's an inspiration to people, which was less than could be said to George W. Bush's approach after 9/11.

What exactly has he done to deserve this?
As for being an inspiration, how?

He's done absolutely nothing except give a few speeches about muslims.

I agree. Its a very strange decision. I'm sure there's many people more deserving of such a honour.

In my opinion, what the Nobel Committee in Norway are basic saying by giving Obama the prize is that they could think of no-one but him to give it to this year.

Did you watch any of his speeches during the election campaign (they're on YouTube) ?

What about "Yes, we can!" etc ?

If that is true then it rips away the last vestiges of standing from an already devalued award. Mind you, when you consider that Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini and Kissenger were all nominated then its no suprise they make strange choices. Kissenger by the way was personally responsible for around a million deaths.

Back to Obama: heres a few of his 'achievements;

One of his first acts of office was to escalate the Afghanistan war by piling in tens of thousands more troops or in other words 'The Vietnam War remix'

The US are one of the few countries who haven't signed the anti landmine treaty (China, Russia and India being the others). It was put in front of our hero but he refused to apply his moniker.

If you reckon Guantanamo is wrong well its still open and we're well past his promise of 100 days.

He's done nothing except get his ring piece licked by the Norwegians.

Come to think of it, I'm not George Bush either but they haven't given me a prize.

He was surprised, even embarrassed I think, to receive that award. His staff must have been shocked as well - they knocked him up at 6am and said 'Ey Obama, guess what those mad bastad Norwegians have given you'....or words to that effect.

He was only in office for about 11 days before the time limit for nominations ran out, so what exactly did he do in those 11 days to justify him winning it sctatchinghead

Er...changing the course of human history with his election campaign, that's even before, his support for more peaceful relations with the Islamic community as a whole and for a world without nuclear weapons.

I tell you what, though, there was a lot of people who thought that Obama had lost his Midas touch after Chicago got knocked out of the first round of the 2016 Olympic voting.

But, Obama's got one very important characterisitic: BOUNCEBACKABILITY !!!

And what a way to bounce back!

Mr Mutley may have voiced his opinion in a rather forthright manner, but I feel he is correct. If PoK is a university student, I fear for our future - he can't even spell "right" right (see what I did there?) Still, it takes all sorts, eh?

True, generally, but you can't class Yubep as a middle aged meany, just a meany.

Or indeed a ynaem, to be consistent.

And I defend to the end my right to use 'curmudgeonly'. An excellent word.

Somehow, somewhere, sometime I am going to shoehorn the word curmudgeonly into a conversation I have today. Look out man in the local pa..grocers store.

we used to come up with a random daily word out of the dictionary, which we then had to write into the plant log book in some sort of befitting manner.

Wait a minute, I'm taking no responsibility for this. Especially if the man in the local pa grocer store is larger than you!

He won it because he is a black man who won a contest that most of the world thought a black man couldnt win.
Some people may think thats nothing special, others may think its a great achievement. The people who award the Nobel prizes obviously think its a bit special.

Well all the stories I've heard about the industrial unrest of the 70s and high uemployment in the 1980s are quite frankly terryfying.

Compared to the average standard of living today with all the technology we have at our disposal, those were quite decades compared to the 1990s and noughties.

Dear Lord PoK is back on form.

Just face it mate that Obama got the prize for the colour of his skin not the content of his actions.
