Sums him up brilliantly that.

This might sound like i'm going against the grain, but i thought the damned united was shit, it painted him in an awful light, it made him look totally obsessed with leeds united and don revie, it was just awful, at the end of it i was like... well is that it? i want more, i wanna see more and know more about him.

So i bought his book, cracking read, great insight into him.

Some of the stuff he says on that video and in his book are still true today, you can see a thousand changes in football over the years but one thing you never see is a referee change his mind, so leave him be.

You almost feel sorry for Motty in that clip. Almost.

I wonder if anyone ever won an argument with Cloughie?

Thing is with mottie there, he's either thick or naive, your interviewing one of the most arrogent, opinionated and cocky managers the game ever had, so he asks him totally obvious and stupid questions, a good interviewer should be able too see how the interview is flowing, maybe cut questions out, motty just keeps rolling on with the stupid questions.

Brian Moore could always handle Cloughy better than the likes of Motty. Some people who interviewed him just end up looking subservient and naive.

Are you on about the book or the fillum?

I thought the fillum was much better then the book, it showed Cloughie in a much better light

The film, i just thought it was poor and only really give you a taster into his life, which if people are paying £10 for it, isn't really worth it.

His own books mentions very little on leeds united, not enough to make you feel he's obsessed by them, the film does.

If Taylor and Clough we're alive the film would have never came out, or came out just very very differently.

Anyone with a half a brain knows it's fiction and a load of tosh, but most this country only has 1/4 of a brain and probs thinks it's fact.

Cloughie did something that Revie and Leeds never did - twice. ACTUAL champions of Europe, as opposed to fictional ones.
Bayern Munchen!!!!!!

What cloughie done baffles me.

Derby County - won the 2nd, won the 1st, european cup semi finals.

forest - won the 2nd, won the 1st, european cup champions twice in a row.

It defies logic, in todays modern game to do that with the unfashionable clubs he did is not just impossible it's FOOKIN impossible, imagine i dunno, bristol city getting promoted, winning the league then getting into europe, it just wouldnt happen.

The romance out of the game has totally gone.

and that, my friends is the premier league's essence - it is all to do with the main three or four clubs cornering all the cash - and hoovering up any decent players who might otherwise have stayed at Derby, Forest, QPR etc and had a team built around them at those clubs which could genuinely challenge for honours.
It really isn't about management anymore - it's about waving wads of cash in the faces of players, so other clubs simply cannot succeed..
Ferguson could not have done what Clough did in my opinion. He has had resources way beyond what Clough ever had, and even I could win the league as Man Utd's manager with all the cash and players they have.
Managers like John Still are the modern game's truly good managers in the traditional sense of the word - being successful on the field with absolutely no money at all

Spot on parmo, if anything it makes you really appreciate the jobs managers do at our level, people like cooper getting us to play the play-offs on zero money.

Leeds Utd, great daft Yorkshire puds, should never have given him the tintack, they would of become a REAL force in football, IMHO, FACT!!!!

try telling that to any of them though - it's a mark of how much they are disliked when...... it's about the only time even the average fan wants Man U to win when it's Leeds they're playing

The main thing about Forests European successes was that the European cup was a real cup competition, once you get beat thats it youre out.
No second chances to finish group runner up,a straight knockout. It was also essential viewng in those days too.Nowadays the European games are about as interesting as the premiershit.

Even back then Clough said there was too much football on tv, that it was rammed down our throats, it's intensified by about 500% since the 80's.

Add to that the internet, then the 24 hour sky sports news, sky themselves, espn etc etc

I don't mind it, and could probs watch any game on tv, but i can see his point.

seriously I only watch Pools for 90 minutes live, I never watch any of the premier games or even other games from our league on tv - I can't stomach it all.
I only want to watch the highlights channels with the goals for other matches, and that's it.

We have a little "Fantasy Football" league thing at work and they can't believe that I keep refusing to join despite me saying that I don't even watch Match of the Day anymore so how can I judge/pick and choose players etc.

When I have said in the past to people about supporting Pools many have used the old quip "if Hartlepool were playing in my back garden I would close the curtains" funny hey!!! Well that's the line I would use about the Champions League.

Ultimately money has sucked the dream and soul out of football and I'm sure Cloughie is turning in his grave. Put this on Intotheblue a while back but I would seriously recommend "Provided you don't Kiss Me, 20 Years with Brian Clough by Duncan Hamilton" a great read about Cloughie but also a good book comparing footy in 70's and 80's to what it has become today

how much better it will be when they finally give up all pretences and eventually f-uck off into their European Super League and leave the rest of us behind once and for all. I don't care what the so-called standard would be or whatever - it would be a genuinely exciting opportunity for the rest of football. It could be done without all the sponsorship etc - it could go back to what it was 25 years ago. Low paid, but still a nationwide competition which any team could win - and come from anywhere up the leagues like Watford or Swansea

Couldn't agree more Parmo - shame you are not in charge of the Football League! I would tell the Premiershit to welcome to the board, say no more teams can drop into the football league from this season and go it alone that really would leave the top 4 or 5 teams and the rest purely making up the numbers without even a relegation battle to get anyone excited. People would soon get bored and in the mid term it would die of it's own accord - no fans=no sponsorship etc
