The season always used to start mid/late August. It's only the last 10-12 years that it's moved to early August.

Anyway, this was the day before I was born...

Sounds like a terrible game in a terrible season. We only scored in 6 of the last 20 games!

I see what you're doing there, trying to increase traffic for your site. Won't get me falling for that one.

I had to get my dog put down that day. Steve Fletcher scored for Pools, then I seen him coming into the RAFA club afterwards (his old man was the steward at the time), just as I was taking my dog into the vets next door. I said hello to Steve but obviously I had other things on my mind at that time. A sad end to what should have been a good day. sadx sadx

21st August 1956.

We played Wrexham away the next day and drew 2-2 with Newton and Rayment scoring. We played in front of some big crowds that season and finished second. 13,000 at home to Darlo and 14,000 at their place. 12,000 at home to Carlisle, 22,000 away at Bradford, 24,000 at Derby.

I wonder if the old man went to Wrexham sctatchinghead sctatchinghead

Probably....

Workington at home 16.3.63. Got a 2-2 draw which wasn't bad for that season.

This is the nearest one for me...

http://www.inthemadcrowd.co.uk/cgi-bin/ ... p?oid=2508

We got beat at home by a team with no goalkeeper and no outfield players in front of a darlowesque crowd.

Not on line for a couple of days before the weekend, so I've just found this.

This was 2 days before

http://www.inthemadcrowd.co.uk/cgi-bin/ ... p?oid=1554

and this one 3 days after

http://www.inthemadcrowd.co.uk/cgi-bin/ ... p?oid=1555

2 Home wins. The Flying Dustman scored in both.
