Is Jah Wobble's Live In Hartlepool and Manchester the only live in Hartlepool album officially released? White Spirit bootlegs don't count...

I had a tape of a few bands supporting Alex Hand and His Band at the North Eastern, fore runner of the Birds Nest. Lost as well though.

Here's me thinking that album title meant an instruction to 'live' as in dwell, not 'live' as in live performance.

I thought it was a great bit of publicity for the town. And Manchester.

there have been a few live recordings of people engaging in sex acts in Hartlepool - does that count?

Recordings of sex acts count but only if they got an official release as a live album on CD, LP, cassette or eight track. A 3 CD box set called, "After the monkey they..." would count but a fuzzy video from the B&Q CCTV wouldn't. Unless it was very funny.

Think the Birds Nest was called the Empress (of India) at some point. It was definitely a knocking shop for the docks though, all the upstairs floors were full of tiny rooms. Mike the lock-in loving landlord took us on a guided tour once.

That is definitely Geoff/Jeff Butterfield doing his only good song about being up the Mekong river in Vietnam. I'd guess it is the Nursery, they put a few non-folk bands on in the late 70s, but I don't remember the curtains or the photos on the wall. Could be The Flamingo with the lights on...

Where did you get the film from? He sounds better than I remembered, bit Gang of Fourish (high praise round here).
