I go once or twice a year for work - only St Helier, mind.

Sounds like you're going for work so if you're on expenses try and get a lunch time or evening meal at the Royal Yacht club on Liberation Square.
Like everywhere on the island it's a bit pricey but if you like seafood, the chilli squid, scallops or tempura prawns are good.
The burgers are great too.

Alternatively there's a Portuguese place called Mano's (near the sculptured cows in the town centre) which serves good food.

There's no beer brewed on the island, so it's the usual fare - the pubs are like Britain in the 80s, no trendy steel and glass monstrosities.

As a cultured chap you may be interested in the German occupation items at the museum, and there's loads of war relics.

Been there twice. Stayed at the Mayfair hotel. Food was very good. The local buses get you all over the island and not too expensive so you can organise coastal walks. One runs from the airport to St Helier and is much cheaper than a taxi. The Lamplighter pub near to the bus station in St Helier was excellent. Had 8 real ales on when we were there .

If you don't mind the crapauds, it's bearable. It's certainly more like the mainland than Guernsey though - they've destroyed St Helier with that homogeneous waterfront development, and there's always trouble in town with drunks on a Friday/Saturday.

I'll second the Lamplighter. It's on the way from our office there to the taxi rank, so been there plenty of times. Last time they had Banks on gravity - very nice. I'm over next week, so I'll probably be in their for a cheeky one on the way back to the airport.

If you haven't booked anywhere yet, The Club is the place to stay, although they've recently done up the Yacht and the Pomme D'Or is always reliable. If you're after somewhere good to eat with decent prices in St Helier I'd recommend Gradees in Colomberie Court. My favourite restaurant is La Capaninna in Halkett Place (think 1970's mafia fillum), but it's £100-£150 for two. To be honest I find Bohemia (at The Club) a bit overrated, and again you pay for that Michelin star, while the cocktail bar is probably the most expensive in the Channel Islands. Further afield, the Crab Shack right on St Brelades Bay is very good, and I've heard the Castle Green pub at Grouville overlooking Mont Orgueil is also good.

The zoo is worth a visit, and I enjoy wandering round the market, but other than that I can't say I've ever done any touristy things in Jersey for years. Why not try a day trip to a proper island?

Oh, and just to let you know we flush all our untreated raw sewage straight out to sea - enjoy their beaches!

I went there once, for about an hour. Then we flew on to Guernsey, in a minibus with wings. If you have time to, a trip over to Sark is worth a visit, it's where PC and I went for our honeymoon. It won't have changed a bit in the last quarter of a century.
