now theres a surprise...

A scheme in which heroin is given to addicts in supervised clinics has led to big reductions in the use of street drugs and crime, the BBC has learned.
More than 100 users took part in the pilot - part funded by the government - in London, Brighton and Darlington.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8255418.stm

and they're the ones who accuse US of being a town full of smackheads...

Interested to note that Mssrs Todd and Windpipe are doing a public signing session at the Cornmill centre today.

The way those two are going, a public flogging session might seem more apt. sctatchinghead

Hey, if it wasn't for drug addicts we wouldn't have top films like Trainspotting and Traffic.

Mutley I agree about your point, and having been affected (like most people) with cancer in the family know that the brilliant work done by hospice and cancer research etc require donations.

But the government is trying to combat the problem cause by crime due to drug abuse. Lots of muggings, theft is a result of this by people trying to fund their habit. We all know that its their own fault but lots of people end up in this state due to problems at home etc. If the programme works then I am all for it as it will prevent costly prision sentences (which the rehabilitation doesnt work as they just go straight back onto the gear and then go back into clink) and prevents the crimes which will result in all of us benefitting from.

This might not be the complete answer but at least its a step in the right direction

The simple answer to costly prison sentences is a three strikes and out rule.

Third time a smackhead is convicted of a crime they are hung. Quick and simple. It'd help the economy no end- a job for a hangman, joiners to make gallows, undertakers, grave diggers...

It seems my undercover mission to turn Mr Ripper into a pinko, wishy-washy, Leftie is slowly working.

It would have been 1 strike and you're hanged 2 years ago.

clappp clappp clappp
I've lived next door to this sort of sh-ite and I would like to see all the people who used to come and go from there to be executed. They are all a waste of s-punk, always have been and always will be. These people are a dead loss, so I would make them dead, and it would be no loss.
Fuck what anyone says about social problems etc - I never did it, and I had problems. It's a good way to weed out the weak minded too.

I agree....partly....but why should OUR Money be given to Drug users to fund their habit when we have to raise money for things such as....Cancer Research....Hospices....MS....etc etc....and one that I can't believe is a Charity considering we live on an Island....the RNLI???? sctatchinghead  banghead

So to me the Complete Answer is....SPEND MONEY ON DESERVING CAUSES....NOT SCUMMY FECKING SMACKHEADS WHO HAVE A CHOICE!!!! rage rage

Just been on the RNLI site and found this out....

'The RNLI's running costs average around £339,000 (€440,700) a day. For every £1 raised, 85p is spent on operations and 15p is spent on generating income.'

confised confised confised

That's scary....I hope the RNLI have plenty of Stalls around the 'Tall Ships' site next year for fund raising!!!!

I'll say it again....

WHY THE FECK ISN'T THE RNLI NOT GOVERNMENT FUNDED???? rage rage rage

After reading bits and bobs on their site....I feel like signing up!!!! :coool: :coool:

I've had a drink like!!!! confised confised

I'm gonna' have another look tomorrow....when I'm sober!!!! :coool:

Honest!!!!

Our money is given to drug addicts anyway - whether they're mugging us, taking up police time, prisons spaces, or using our hospitals and other health facilities...

Schemes like this have shown to lower crime, and even reduce addict numbers - it certainly allows better monitoring of addicts - which in turn reduces the burden on police, prisons and hospitals, and reduces the chances of being robbed by an addict. It's a step in the right direction.

Why should there be a need for charities to collect money for cancer research? Why should ordinary folk go cap in hand to raise money for hospital equipment? As long as these exist, the government, ... tha's any government ... will absolve themselves of funding responsibility.

Research and medical equipment - the RNLI - should be paid for out of the public purse, and not wasted on some scheme to save junkies.

If you walk on eggshells for two years and never say a word wrong or put a foot out of place, they might commute it to life imprisonment. If anything else comes to light, you're fooked.
