I first heard this when we played Maidstone away (they were groundsharing at Dartfords ground). It was near Christmas time. I'd never heard the original and I thought it was brilliant - and still do.

Here's the first one I remember..

Bertie Mee said to Bill Shankly.
You've heard of the North Bank Highbury,
Shanks said no, I don't think so,
But I've heard of the Rink End aggro .......

unlikely scenario, I have to admit.

"Are you watching Darlington" - Guide me Thou, O Great Redeemer. With the great chorus -

"Bread of heaven / Bread of heaven / Feed me now and evermore - evermore / Feed me now and evermore".

I can't think of any Pools players that 'Son of my father' has been applied to, but I'm sure there will be some. As sung about Sami Hyppia among others.

I'm afraid you're all wrong.

It's a well known fact (after all, it was said in the Mail's letter page which is obviously proof!) that all Pools terrace songs were written by Mr F Stockton & co in the RAFA club. This applies to both music & lyrics. Frankie is well known as the Bernie Taupin of football lyrics and recieves requests for advice from as far afield as Boca Juniors.
