Now that we're at the World cup finals (never a doubt) name your 23 man squad.

Mine....

Gk's James, Foster, Green

Defender's Brown, Johnson, Terry, Ferninand, Lescott,Cole(A),Upson

Midfielder's Lennon, Walcott, Beckham, Lampard, Gerrard, Cole(J), Barry, Milner,Young

Forward's Rooney, Crouch, Defoe,Heskey

Outsider,s (IMHO) GK Robinson, Defender, Bridge,Neville Midfield, Carrick, Forward Owen

Though he can name a provisional squad of 30 to be reduced to 23,

I'd go along with that squad, pretty solid, Capello knows his stuff and wont pick any duds.

Walcott will be fit come the next few weeks, if he can stay injury free he is loads more consistent than wright-phillips, who has never ever done anything in an england shirt.

SWP is dreadful imo. Only Ian Wright seems to rate him

I am not saying I rate him over walcott but saying that capello picks player who play regular and SWP is doing that.

Im sure Walcott will start playing more regularly and get in the england squad. it would be a mistake not to have him in the squad.

Im must say, Im very impressed with capello. If anyone is going to lead us to another world cup he will.

agreed, as he is doing what any fan of engalnd has been saying for years, pick people on form and the best "team". He doesnt play to ego's and leaves people out when he doesnt think the balance of the team is correct.

Oh I have remembered someone else who is returning from injury.........

Owen Hargreaves bbolt

Putting individuals aside for a sec, I cannot understand why we only ever take four forwards to major tournaments. The two centre forward berths are arguabley the most important positions on the pitch and there's a good chance that one or both positions get substituted during the course of a match.

If we get an injury or two (like Owen in the last World Cup and Rooney in the previous Euros) it leaves us severely under strength. Most other countries have at least 5 or 6 forwards in their squads. We should have more. Any why the heck we need three keepers, I'll never know.

3 players for one position that is hardly likely to get changed during the course of a tournamnet and four players for two positions that are changed frequently and are usually the difference between winning and losing.

Mind you, we don't have many decent English forwards to choose from

Fifa used to only allow a squad of 22 then they changed it to 23 to incorporate another keeper, so i dunno if they would allow countries to only pick 2.

I agree on the forward front, always said it.

We have more than enough midfielders and defenders who can swap about if we get injuries.

So take one less and add another striker in.

As for strikers i would taken Rooney, Heskilator, Defoe, Crouch, Cole.

Is this based on current form and fitness?

If Owen stays fit and scores 20 goals for Man Ure then he should be in the squad.

So would I. We only have one world class striker amongst them lot which could be a big reason why we'll fall short again

Well yes current form, a million things can change.

You normally always get 1 injury.

And 1 player who breaks into the squad that you don't expect.

A month ago aaron lennon was left out of the squad, some good games for spurs, few goals, few assists, and he's back in the squad, starts and has a blinder, just shows how quickly things can change.

And i have to say this is how it should be, far too many times under sven, mcclaren, keegan etc etc the big guns have always started no matter what, it's great too see a manager picking form players.

Capello has even managed to remove whatever it was that was preventing Steven gerrard from being an international-class midfielder. Up until a year or so ago gerrard appeared to be getting picked on his stellar reputation because he had done little in an England shirt to warrant continued selection in the squad. Under capello he has (finally) looked very good. Impressive stuff from player and manager.

I'm surprised you care MJ!!

it's all hype and stuff though innit? It would be better for international football if one of the usual five suspects didn't win it (Germany/Italy/France from Europe, Argies and Brazil from South America) I don't include England in this cos I want them to get beat these days - maybe soemone like South Africa itself , that would be my choice for winning it.

I think an African Nation will come close to winning it, Possibly Ghana or Ivory Coast.

The argies are really struggling to qualify, lost again last week, maradona is struggling and if he didnt have god like status in argentina i think he would have been sacked by now.
