feckin hell. My mum and dad used to force me to go there on a saturday evening around 1985 when I was a nipper. I absolutely HATED it. The old woman was a complete bitch as far as i can remember and I was terrified of her. Im sure I dislike swimming to this day because of Rossy baths.

I remember getting a sticker with a puffin on it afterwards. Was it a puffin or a penguin sctatchinghead

I think it was a puffin, I went there about 86-87 so probably the same women, there was also a very shifty man there if memory serves me right. But the women was like a tin-pot hilter with daggers behind her glasses and behive hair cut.

I am glad I could swim well as the kids who used to float like a stone she used to follow with a big stick incase the needed help.

Betty Sands taught me at Rossmere.

Again, no puffing things, just the 10m, 25m, 50m, 100m etc up to a mile (I'm younger than Mr Elvis  ).

The mile was over a hundred lengths I seem to recall. sctatchinghead

When I were a lad, there was none of this Puffin/Rainbow crap.

You did your 25 yards.

Then your 50 yards.

Then 100, 200 and 400 yards.

Then your Half-Mile and Mile.

For each one you got a Swimming Certificate and a little sew-on rectangular badge for your trunks!

The mile was summat ludicrous like 48 lengths of the baths!

Unless my mind is going, Betty Sands wasn't a bitch
