October ( I think) Field Music
never heard them, something like Futureheads or Maximo Park I would imagine, very good write ups, Newcastle band.

Nov 2
Gogol Bordello
Gypsy punks. Those two words say it all. Those two styles complete with deranged singer. Cant wait for that one. Their live shows are supposed to be a fine spectacle.

Nov 14
Rancid
Okay I know its many years later but Out Come the Wolves is a great punk album, it really is. Muttley have your heard that album or what? Alcohol and the refined pogo. I expect to have broken limbs after this gig.

Nov 15
Primal Scream
The day after Rancid - didnt realise when I booked them. I'm 36 and will find it hard getting out of bed on this morning, never mind getting myself in the state to go out gigging again. Last saw them in 1991. Their rock n roll albums may be cliched but they do it well. And their back catalogue suggests they could have a fine set list.

Nov 30
The Meteors
I'm getting my quiff sorted but its not easy with curly hair. May stand at the back with this one. Sewertime Blues was a great album but they've done loads and some are not that fantastic. They have got a song called the Wrecking Crew - wasnt that phrase used somewhere before?

So, from old beardies to young students. What do you reckon to this line-up? Impressive, irrelevant or couldnt give a toss? Got any better bands to go and see? I was well miffed I missed Leeds festival and will have to make it next year.

Not sure if they were on Jools or not. If so they probably sang Immigrant Punk or Start Wearing Purple. I imagine Jools would want them on though, they're his type of band (who isnt?). If you like punk but you're not narrow minded, and like stuff like the pogues as well, then you'd like them definitely. Unfortunately they're not playing Newcastle. Leeds and Birmingham are the nearest. And incidentally the pogues arent playing newcastle this year either as they couldnt get a venue. Thats a big shame for me, though I'd much rather they played the academy than the shite arena.

I saw Primal Scream at Leeds Saturday instead of Franz Ferdinand. They were on top form and the crowd was 50 yards outside the tent.

Gogol Bordello played as well and went down a storm.

That Mad John never came and introduced himself like........ :-(

You should expect Primal Scream to weight their set towards the later material with a few older tracks thrown in. But you should also expect a belting gig from them. Still one of the best live bands around. Leeds setlist from memory: Moving On Up / Dolls / Jailbird / Shoot Speed Kill Light / Suicide Sally & Johnny Guitar / Kill All Hippies / Medication / Kowalski / Swastika Eyes / Country Girl / Rocks. I'll have missed a couple there but that was more or less it. One of the highlights of the weekend.

Y'see??

I stood and watched that and he still never said hello......

Head in the clouds that lad.... :)

Rancid and Primal Scream I booked on Carling Academy website
Field Music a friend booked and I reckon they'll sell out dead quick,if they havent already. They're playing The Cluny on 29th September. Small venue on the only part of Newcastle really going out in - The Ouseburn (riverside just below Byker)

Think about Middlesborough Town Hall for my nephews band Hot Club De Paris supporting Maximo Park. Sometime in September. You will not be dissapointed.

I've got a friend going to see Michah, asked if I wanted to go. Only problem is, despite how beautiful the Sage looks from the outside, I've only been to a gig once and hated it. The gig was Morrissey and ok, his last album was a bit pants which didnt help, but sitting down at gigs I have a major problem with - also not being able to drink (?). I sneaked a couple of vodka's into the morrissey one, under my coat then downed them in one, but the second time I was told I'd get chucked out if they saw me again.
I also dislike sitting down at football matches.
