As long as you do all the necessary checks and make sure you know who your are buying from then there are bargains to be had. However there are a large number of traders on there posing as private sellers (to avoid consumer legislation). Check their ebay history to see if they sell lots of cars. Definitely do a HPI check before buying too. if it turns out to be stolen then you are knackered. Oh and dont buy from anyone in darlo or west yorkshire.

I'd not risk it, for a big purchase which a car normally is to get ripped off just isn't worth it.

I don't mind buying stuff on here for £30-£40 cos if you get ripped off you'd be pissed off but it wouldnt ruin you.

Saw mine on ebay and went and bought it from garage.

Wouldnt have a problem buying one off your average joe on ebay either. If you go to see the car first, see its history etc and do checks on it then i dont see any problem.

Whats the difference between buying a car off ebay and buying it out of say auto trader? If you turn up and its not what was advertised then you walk away, simple. If he says the engine is brand new but is blowing out blue smoke and the dipstick looks like its been dipped in mayonnaise then the chances are that its not what its cracked up to be.

Pay what you think its worth, check it over when you arrive, check the paperwork thoroughly, check on HPi if its costing you a reasonable amount and job done.

Fully agree with the above, ebay is no more or less of a risk from buying anywhere else second hand. If the car is not as described then you have no legal obligation to buy it.
